Greetings!
:
December 1 and we are being hit hard! Mother Nature heard a whole bunch of people wishing for snow to make it "more holiday like, and SHE DELIVERED!
So now that we are "In the mood" for the holidays, lets take a look at what's happening here at Cornerstone. This past Friday was the kick-off to the holiday shopping season with Festive Friday. Participating shops were open late and we thank everyone for coming to check us out! When it comes to shopping at Cornerstone the saying, "The early bird catches the worm" definitely applies. We have new pieces from all of your favorite artists arriving daily. From mitts to slippers, to jewellery, to amazing sculptures and wall art, we have gifts that will bring a smile to even the fussiest of people. I mean really, who wouldn't love a piece of Canadian - made art to wear or to look at or to use!
This month's featured artist is Sarah Hale. Sarah has had her work at the store for a very long time. You may recognize her handiwork from the name cards that so many people purchase whenever a baby in the family is born. Sarah's batik work is outstanding technically and she keeps coming up with fresh, new & beautiful ideas for her work. We invite you to c'mon down to see it for yourself because the pictures don't do it justice!
Nick Leniuk is noted for doing some pretty amazing & intricate stone carvings. In fact we have shipped his pieces all over the world! So it comes as no surprise that he was asked to carve a special piece.
Stone Shaper Nick Leniuk has created a piece commemorating 50 years of the Ukrainian club in Kingston! It will be unveiled on Friday December 6
th
2019 at Kingston City Hall where it will be on display for a few months before being moved to its’ permanent location, St John The Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Congratulations Nick!
2 of our featured artists, painter, Lise Gillis & digital artist, Rachel Arcadi, had such great responses to their work here at the shop that we have asked them to come aboard & be a permanent part of the gallery. Congratulations ladies & welcome aboard!
The "Snow Much Fun" event is happening December 6, 2019. An evening of fun at Market Square is just what everyone needs to get the holiday spirit rising. Think skating, hot chocolate and sparkling holiday lights.....
Speaking of sparkling holiday lights.....The staff at Cornerstone have created a wonderful & whimsical holiday window. (Even I got to work on it this year!) Store manager, Lisa Scales, pulled out all the stops with Polar bears skating under the Aurora Borealis, sledding down hills beside birch forests....Looking at all the beautifully decorated storefront windows when I was a little girl was a very special event. I hope that you will come down to check them all out and see the hard work everyone has put in.
And just a nod to few other artists here....
Nick Hally from Maple Hollows Studios, has created some beautifully crafted little wooden boxes that are inlaid with the most beautiful designs. Popping the "Big Question" to a special someone soon? I can't think of a more special way to do it!
Sparkly bits from Karley Smith are making their way to the store. A jewellery favorite of many of the ladies that come here! Guys are you listening???
Nathalie Parenteau has sent us a HUGE shipment that include some larger wall art pieces that we have not had before. There is also a section of her amazing cards that reflect life in the Yukon Territory
We have holiday cards & ornaments that will warm anyone's heart. Need a gift for a special teacher? Babysitter? Dog walker or cat sitter? We have what you are looking for!
Need to keep you organized? We have calendars from a wide range of artists to keep your dates up to date! All are beautiful so pick out the one that will keep you inspired!
Looking ahead....
A new Zentangle class will be happening (weather permitting) on Sunday January 19, 2020 (I can't believe that I am writing that number...) from 9:00 AM - 12 noon (or there about as it often runs later because people are having fun!) The topic of this workshop is "A Black Tile Event". As usual, the class fee is 55.00 and light refreshments are provided. Notices about the class will be put up on our classes page on our website and there will be postings on FB, and other social media. Please call the store at 613.546.7967 to register.
We are already in the process of signing up for the Humane Society Cupcake Event in February. The month of January & February we will be accepting donations that will be donated to the Kingston Humane Society. I know what you are thinking.... Someone else asking for money... We hear you because we get requests for donations all year long here at the store and we do as many! All I am asking is that you save a little of your donation dollars for the animals at the Kingston Humane society for the CupCake event in the new year.
From our heart to yours,
Penny & the staff at Cornerstone
