DAILY PRAYERS FOR THE SPECIAL
GENERAL CONFERENCE

Daily Prayers are being called for around the Special General Conference of our international United Methodist denomination. This General Conference, meeting in St. Louis, is now three weeks away. We are asked to be in a covenanted time of prayer together in order to find strength together, no matter what is decided at this General Conference. We are asked to lift prayer for the individuals representing our Mountain Sky area, as well as, no matter the outcome, to continue to be vital congregations sharing the grace of Jesus across our districts and conference.  We are asked to pause for prayer daily at noon. Prayer guide cards are available in the narthex.

NEW OFFICE MANAGER

The UMCE Staff Parish Relations Committee is happy to announce that Allison Caldwell has accepted the role of serving as our church office manager.  She has been training with Carol Wood and will officially take over as Office Manager on Feb. 18.

Allison was selected from a large group of truly outstanding applicants for the office manager position.  Her past experiences include working as an account executive in New York City as well as multiple positions with financial advisors in the Denver area.  During the interview process, Allison's ability to create a welcoming environment as well as her administrative skill set both stood out.  Allison's family attends the Church of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church here in Evergreen. Her 2 year old son, Weston, will be beginning at the Great Escape in the near future.    Allison will be attending our services one Sunday in the near future to be introduced and welcomed by the congregation.

Many, many thanks go to Carol for her flexibility and willingness to help train Allison during this transition.  Carol's dedication and love for our church have been evident throughout this transition process.  Thanks Carol!   If you have any questions about this transition, please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or Pastor Deb.

Allison Caldwell's Bio

Allison was born and raised in Scottsdale, AZ and is the oldest of five children. She moved to Colorado to attend college at the University of Colorado-Boulder where she majored in Operations Management. After graduation she moved to New York City where she was a Fashion Executive for almost 9 ½ years. Eight years ago, she moved back to Denver where she met her husband, Paul Caldwell. She worked at a financial planning firm in Denver until she had her son two years ago.  Allison has lived in Evergreen for almost 7 years and shares her house with her husband, son, and their three dogs.

Penn Gildersleeve, Chair of UMCE's Trustees, is asking that everyone who uses the church building be aware that Penn is the point of contact for after-hours access to the church building and the rooms within the building.

Please do not contact pastor Deb, the church office manager, or the custodians if you need access. Penn is the sole contact for these types of needs/requests. If Penn is away on vacation or business he will designate someone to be his contact in his absence.

Penn's cell phone is (303) 902-9959 and his land line is (303) 674-4899.  He can be to the church in a couple of minutes.

Just a reminder that there is an updated church directory next to the phone in the church kitchen with Penn's numbers. Thank you for your understanding.

NEW PRAYER CANDLE TABLE DURING WORSHIP
at Both Services

We are offering a new element in our worship experience--a table of prayer candles.  During our opening hymn, anyone wishing to lift up a quiet, private prayer by lighting a candle may do so.  Simply come forward, light one of the lighting sticks from the central candle, use it to light a votive candle and silently offer your prayer.   When you are finished lighting your candle you may pass your light to another person or extinguish it in the sand.  Please stay as long as you like.  If you wish to have Rev. Deb or Rev. Joyce pray with you, you may share your prayer with one of them.  We hope you will enjoy yet another way to offer your prayers.

February 17: Empathy and Communication, Part 1
Facilitator: Gayla Michelin
Empathy Exploration: I once heard someone say "Don't Do anything that is Not Play", so Let's play "EMPATHY BLOCKERS" to create awareness of how we can really connect at a heart level with a person in a dialogue. Let's discuss the meaning of Empathy, and also what it is not.  Even the most well intended reassurance can be painful.  Also take a brief glance at Needs and the Feelings behind them to prepare for next week's more in-depth discussion on those.  Hope to see you there!

February 24: Empathy and Communication, Part 2
Facilitator: Gayla Michelin
What Makes Life More Wonderful? What Feeling Words are actually judgmental rather than a true feeling? "Thou Shall Not Judge...."  Do we judge without realizing it?  We will look at where our feelings arise from.  Hint:  it's Met and/or Unmet needs.  If there is time we could touch on making requests.  So little time and so much to discuss... Oh, did I mention a card game?   I will bring the cards to facilitate our discussion. I am looking forward to it.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Cradled

Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

         - Psalm 91:1

A number of years ago, two young women boarded a ferry to cross the English Channel from England to France. About halfway through their five hour journey, the ferry hit very rough waters and tossed violently on the waves.

At the time the rough water hit, the two women were in the back of the boat and began to feel sea sick. When it became apparent that the pitching of the boat was not going to abate, one of the women decided to return to their assigned seats in the middle of the ferry. She soon fell sound asleep and experienced no more sea sickness. Toward the end of the journey, after the ferry had moved into calmer waters of the coast of France, the other woman joined her. "That was awful," she exclaimed. "I was nauseous for two hours!"

"I'm sorry to hear that," said the second woman, almost ashamed to admit that she hadn't suffered as her friend had. "Weren't you sick?" the first woman asked in amazement.
"No," her friend admitted. "Here at our seats I must have been at the fulcrum of the boat's motion. I could see the front and back of the boat were moving up and down violently, but here, the motion was relatively calm. I simply imagined myself being rocked in the arms of God, and I fell asleep.""

Around you, life may have times of being unsettling or stormy.   Times your life seems like it is bouncing about on rough waters. But when you return to the "center" of your life, the Lord, you will find safety. Let God rock you gently and trust God to bring you through the rough waters.

In Christ's Grace,
Pastor Deb
