Rocket Report

Vol. 4, No. 6, September 11, 2020
Words with Wilson
This morning on announcements, we had a moment of silence in remembrance of all the lives lost on September 11th, 2001. As I am sure all of us can, I remember exactly what I was doing the moment the first plane struck the first tower. It was my second year of teaching here at St. Roch Catholic School , and I was teaching 2nd grade at the time. Like most, I remember the fear , the sadness and the anger I felt that day and for many days to come.

Something that has stuck with me since that day is how that day we prayed together as a school many times. It is not lost on me that not everyone was able to pray as we did that day. It is a true blessing and gift to be able to join with your school community in prayer. I am thankful everyday that I get this opportunity and I do not take it for granted.

When we pray each morning and afternoon on announcements, I am thankful. When I walk past classrooms and our teachers are leading students in prayer, I am thankful. When we gather in our church as a school community, I am thankful. Thank you for choosing Catholic Education and thank you for choosing St. Roch Catholic School!

Have a great weekend!

ROCH-A-THON
Friday, September 25, 2020
Dear Parents and Students of St. Roch Catholic School,

On Friday, September 25th, we will have our annual ROCH-A-THON. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000.00. All proceeds will be used to help improve our school. Your help and participation in this event is essential for the success of this fundraiser. We hope to have 100% participation from our students.

Please ask your relatives and friends to support our ROCH-A-THON with their pledges. This event will take place in two weeks, so I invite you to begin asking for pledges as soon as possible.

Lunch will be provided for all of our students. We will serve a choice of hamburger or hotdog. If neither choice is prefered students should plan to bring a lunch.

This year, like many things, will be different due to Covid. We will not be able to allow any guests during this event, but we will do our best to make it an enjoyable day for all of our students while maintaining a safe and socially distanced environment. More details will be sent out as the date nears.
Each family is asked to raise $100
There will be incentives for our top selling families.
More details will be released next week.

Election Day- Virtual Learning Day
Tuesday, November 3, 2020

As many of you know, St. Roch has traditionally been a polling site. This tradition will continue this election year, and we are excited to welcome the precinct to St. Roch.

The precinct is “housed” in our Parish Life Center and Gymnasium. This location has worked well in the past and has allowed us to continue a normal school day and simply cancel PE classes for the day. This year we have a couple more obstacles due to the changes we have had to make in order to be compliant with the state and local rules for COVID-19 and the changes we have had to make to keep our students off the front parking lot for recess and with our change to our dismissal.

Due to these changes, we will not be able to operate our school on Election Day this year. We have decided to make this an e-Learning day for St. Roch Catholic School. We were originally doing a 1 pm dismissal on this day, but feel for safety purposes, it will be better to not have our students on campus.

Teachers will send home materials and schedules for “live” lessons for this day the Friday before the election. Older students, grades 3-8, will also bring their Chromebooks home for this eLearning Day.

Thank you in advance for your support to this change in our school calendar!

RONCALLI REPORT
Shadowing at Roncalli for 8th Graders
Like many things this year, Roncalli's shadow program for 8th graders is going to look a little different due to Covid-19. Instead of doing a half-day class shadow in the fall, 8th graders are welcome to shadow individually for an entire day! For those that are interested, please contact Allie Ross at aross@roncalli.org to get a visit set up for your student. She currently has days available September-December, with a max of 3 guests per day. Shadow days will also be available January-April (dates not yet set) for the second semester.
Roncalli Yard Signs
Don't have a student at Roncalli, but would like a 2020 yard sign? We have you covered! Signs are available NOW at the front entrance of the school, Roncalli Stadium and the Ascension St. Vincent Gym (new gym). Thank you for supporting RHS!
