Thanksgiving fun facts!

The first Thanksgiving almost didn't involve food! As Puritans, the first pilgrims were strictly religious, and almost celebrated the first harvest by fasting and giving thanks to God, until the Wampanoag Indians came along bearing corn and fish and well--the rest is history!

Thank Lincoln--and the writer of a nursery rhyme! The birth of Thanksgiving as a national holiday can be credited to Sarah Josepha Hale, the writer of "Mary Had a Little Lamb". In 1863 she persuaded President Lincoln to declare the holiday--but only after 17 years of campaigning!
