"No matter whether you are a believer or a non-believer, religious or not religious, a Christian, Hindu, or a scientist, black or white, an Easterner or a Westerner, the most important thing to know is your own mind and how it works.

– HOLY DAYS AND FESTIVALS –
|
|
The two-week long Tibetan Great Prayer Festival, Monlam Chenmo, culminates in the Day of Miracles, Chotrul Duchen, which falls this year on Tue, Feb 19.
This is a Buddha Holy Day, so the karmic effects of virtuous actions performed on this day are multiplied exponentially, according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
Our schedule for Chotrul Duchen are as follows:
- Center open all day for prayers and practices
- Noon, group reading, Sanghata Sutra
- 7:00p, group reading, Golden Light Sutra
Those who have taken the Eight Mahayana Precepts previously from a qualified teacher are encouraged to take them at home at "first light."watcher

KADAMPA CENTER CELEBRATES LOSAR, THE TIBETAN NEW YEAR
Kadampa Center marked Losar, the Tibetan New Year, with a celebration that included traditional songs and prayer. A photo of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was placed in a seat of honor on the high throne. Hosted by Geshe Gelek, the event included stories about celebrating Losar in Tibet, presented by several Tibetan students from Duke Univeristy, a lively demonstration of traditional Tibetan dance, and refreshments – milk tea, sweet Tibetan rice, and homemade cookies. Many showed their respect by offering a kata to the image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Thanks go out this week to all the Dakas and Dakinis that helped during Losar! Volunteers served up the yummy rice, tea and cookies. Joey Gooch and Monica Schario showed us two beautiful Tibetan folk dances while the young Tibetan community shared stories, sang a song and enjoyed the holiday while miles away from home. Thanks to everyone for making this Losar so festive!
