What does Community Mean To you?
|
This is a common discussion question in our circle after we workout. Here is what some of our members had to say:
Community keeps me accountable and honest; it allows me to be myself
Community is a place where I can take help and
support
, and give it too, which is important to me. It brings me
joy
and allows me to give joy, too.
Community allows me to see outside of myself; it's my
foundation
for my sobriety
Community challenges me to be a better person and makes me
feel a part of
Community builds
connection and trust
. With those two things, I don't feel like I want to use as much
Community inspires me to be
more involved
in the lives of others
Community, to me, is a place to
be around other people
. I spend a lot of my time alone and can be awkward and different, but and it's good to be with other people.
What we cannot do alone we can do
together
Community makes me feel
safe
; it's my
family
For us, community is the reason Fit to Recover exists.
It is the people who make up our community that make our mission, events, and hard work possible. We are grateful everyday for everyone who is a part of our community- near and far.
Tell us what community means to YOU! Reply to this email, we would love your input!
We have expanded our community in the recent months to include the
Salt Lake County Jails.
We are grateful for the opportunity to provide workouts in the jail.

This month we went off site for a very special Recovery Chopped event! The Salt Lake Institute of Culinary Education (SLICE) kindly hosted us in their beautiful space to allow our 4 chefs to battle it out at the stoves. With curveball ingredients like powdered cheese, dark chocolate, and canned pumpkin, our chefs turned mystery into magnificent! And, they knew 2/5 judges were under 10 years old, which called for zucchini fritters and ravioli on the menu.
This event showed how exciting food and cooking can be, and its ability to bring us all together to feel joyful and connected. A special shout out to
Pinnacle Recovery
for joining us!

Member(s) Spotlight:
Bonnie Lindner and Lindsay Woods
These two have been doing meal prep since the beginning and we can always count on them to show up. Bonnie brings a delightful, quirky attitude and always makes us all laugh. Lindsay brings light, positivity, and kindness with her everywhere she goes and her ability to make instant friends is admirable. It's such a joy to have them both in the kitchen every single time they come! They are always willing to help out, too, including at the Chopped event!

Let's get better together!
|
This month four of our FTR trainers went to the Strongfirst Kettlebell Level One Certification in Tacoma, Washington, the gold standard in kettlebell training and coaching. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to learn from some of the most knowledgeable kettlebell instructors in the world. The certification is very demanding both physically and mentally, including three days of intensive training and coaching that ends with an entire day of testing on proper coaching and movement technique.
Why would we do this? That's simple: to share all that we learned with our amazing FTR community!
Since our return, we have already received a lot of positive feedback about the new level of coaching.
The training staff at FTR is committed to helping our members be the best that they can be!

Feeling like you need a little extra push to get to the gym?
Mark your calendars for October 18th, when we will begin our 30 in 40 challenge!
It's a simple challenge: try to get 30 workouts in 40 days (which allows for proper rest in between, but keeps you working hard!)

Member Spotlight:
Regina Sparks
Like her last name suggests, Regina is a beam of positive light every time she comes to the gym. She is always so upbeat and positive and has a smile that can light up the room (as pictured). Her calm and caring demeanor is a staple for our 6:30am class and 12pm class. Regina- you inspire us and bring so much good energy to the gym!
Don't forget to give your own shout outs at the Front Desk in the Community Shout Out Box!

We had many opportunities to give back this month! First, we offered high-fives and hollers to our friends running Recovery Day's 5K. We also got "Farm Fit" at Wasatch Community gardens, assisting the Green Garden team in spreading mulch and preparing their land for the fall. We were rewarded with a garden meal of gazpacho and BLTs for our hard work. And, a big gratitude shout out to our volunteers who helped transform FTR into a sober club for our Dance for Recovery event. Most of all, we always have FUN while we volunteer- be sure to join us next month!

In October, our FTR volunteers will be helping out at Homeless Connect, a one-day, one-stop shop for multiple services for the homeless population (sorry, this event is no longer accepting volunteers). Also, be sure to join us at FTR for our FREE Trunk or Treat event, which will allow families to make Halloween treats together and pick out candy together at FTR on October 20th at 4PM-6PM. Sign up
