Claremont Heritage will present Back to Modern, a mid-century modern exhibition featuring artwork and poetry by Dr. Kendall Johnson on February 2, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Back to Modern will feature 13 paintings and accompanying reflections focusing on mid-century modernism with a call to reexamine the movement's aesthetic experimentation, novel vision, and pursuit of meaning. As Dr. Johnson states, "The virtues of individual responsibility, authenticity, and personal expression have new found importance now. Mid-century angst is back, as is the turning back towards the arts as something more than social critique." This exhibition aims to reconsider the modernist effort.

Julie and David Armstrong Share their Love of Clay
The Claremont Museum of Art is pleased to present an exhibition that invites you to enter the home of ceramic collectors Julie and David Armstrong.
Living with Clay: The Julie and David Armstrong Collection will be on view January 18 through April 20, 2019. The exhibition is generously sponsored by Art Braeger, Janell and Randall Lewis.
Join us for the opening reception on Art Walk, Saturday, February 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The museum is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
A love of clay led Julie and David Armstrong, long-time Claremont residents and founders of the highly-regarded
American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, to amass an extraordinary private collection.The exhibition is staged to simulate the manner in which the Armstrongs display their collection in their home, alongside paintings and furnishings, revealing the integration of art in their daily lives while also saluting the collectors' taste, ideas, and the uniqueness of their vision.

75th SCRIPPS COLLEGE CERAMIC ANNUAL
This year, the Ceramic Annual, the longest-running exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the nation, turns 75! Curator Kirk Delman, who has worked with the collection for decades, has selected a wide variety of works from the College's renowned Marer Collection to display in the exhibition. Fred Marer collected artwork in the mid-twentieth century, befriending and supporting some of the greatest ceramic artists of the time. Many of the works he purchased directly from those artists will be on display as we celebrate 75 years of ceramic exhibitions.
PALM SPRINGS MODERNISM WEEK - CLAREMONT MODERN BUS TOUR
NOTE: This Tour originates and ends in Palm Springs
Approximately 8 sites will be visited on the Claremont Modern Tour and will include residential, institutional and commercial architecture by such luminaries as Richard Neutra; Millard Sheets; Theodore Criley, Jr.; Fred McDowell; Edward Durrell Stone; and A. Quincy Jones & Frederick E. Emmons. There will be time for lunch at a local hot spot (cost of lunch not included), and a cocktail hour at the last location on the tour. Claremont is 75 miles/90 minutes west of Palm Springs, travel in comfort on a luxury 'high panoramic visibility euro-bus' (with restroom facilities) departing from and returning to Palm Springs. Two documentaries, one each direction, on Claremont Modern Art + Design will be shown en route. A Claremont Modern Map and Souvenir Catalog will be provided as part of the tour package. $150
