IMPORTANT: Return to School 2020-2021 Information
July 15, 2020
Dear members of The Joseph Sears School Community,
Please watch this full 15-minute video to learn about our plans for reopening school in August. School may look different this fall than what our families are accustomed to, but our focus remains the same: all students will be prepared to advance and thrive, now and into the future. The feedback we have received throughout these past few months has been invaluable to our effort to plan a more effective and meaningful learning environment given the difficult circumstances.

Using all of the guidance, we have also committed ourselves to the following guiding principles with a lens of equity and planning for our most vulnerable students and families:
  • Maintain the health and safety of all students and staff
  • Allow for the maximum amount of uninterrupted in-person learning
  • Provide meaningful and engaging academic experiences for all students
  • And to address the social and emotional needs of all students
As you know, the state of Illinois is in Phase IV of Restore Illinois. There are specific guidelines from the governor’s office and the Illinois State Board of Education during this phase. Please know that the state may move into different phases and we will need to adjust our plans accordingly.

Communicating with families is a top priority and we will continue to send regular school-wide emails and videos to parents with more specific information as it becomes available. You can also find information on our website. We will be sending out a survey to allow families to let us know their registration intentions for learning now that more information is available on the District's plan for 2020-2021.

We will also be hosting a remote Second Cup of Coffee for parents, Return to School Question & Answer Session on July 20 at 10 a.m. via Zoom, details are below. Please submit any questions in advance that you would like to be addressed in the Q & A or in future communications. You can submit those questions on our Return to Learn Q & A Form.

Thank you for your partnership as we continue to work together for what is best for all our students. Be well.
Sincerely,

Ms. Kate Donegan
