Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
Catholic Schools Week has been a great opportunity to celebrate what happens every day at OLQP. Science fair is a good representation of how the partnership between OLQP and the community brings out the best in students. All science teachers are involved with the projects or developmental skills at the appropriate instructional level for their respective grade levels. Each year, the complexity of the expectations for learning and product increases. By the time students are in middle school, under Dr. Whitmarsh's tutelage, student research and experiments are developed and benefit from the guidance of mentors from the local science and engineering community. Twenty-five volunteers came to judge the fair. The volunteers were from the community as well as OLQP parents and staff. A team of dedicated teachers worked to tally the results and prepare for morning assembly. OLQP graduates entered data. When you see the depth of learning and the skills that student are applying, it is all worthwhile. The parent of two OLQP graduates attributes her daughters' success in high school competitions to the foundation laid at OLQP:
Our daughters' foundation for academic competition was formed at OLQP. The years spent under the guidance of Dr. Whitmarsh created the interest in competing in high school through 4H, Future Farmers of America, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo among others. They have received recognition at the local, district, state, and national levels.
Through OLQP science fair experiences, guidance, and knowledge, our girls have been given the confidence to present and clearly explain their science projects to high school teachers and college professors. Scholarship dollars were an added benefit. OLQP gives students the tools and spiritual foundation needed to be successful in their future years.
Working together, great things happen for the students at OLQP. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
