Declan Coster
Class of 2019

Senior Declan Coster has been Class President for all four years of his high school career. Declan is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been leading huddles for the past three years. He has been a Peer Leader since his junior year, is a member of Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. Declan is a member of the Tennis Team and has played Junior Varsity for the past three years. He is also a Varsity Swimmer and Team Captain for the Boys Swim Team. Declan has loved all of his classes at North Hunterdon. From learning about science principles to world events or foreign language to computer language. He has had great teachers, which have made sometimes boring material very fun. Declan has been a Boy Scout for almost seven years. He has held almost every leadership position in his Troop, Troop 119 of Union Township, including Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Declan is currently a Den Chief assisting a den from Pack 119 in Union Township. He received Eagle Scout at the end of his sophomore year. His project was the installation of two 20ft x 20ft pavilions, eight tables, and ten shade trees at the Union Township Elementary School. The goal was to increase the shade at the school to allow for students to be protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Some of his other awards are placing third in the state for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Scouter of the Year Contest, Union League of Philadelphia’s Citizenship Award, and the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII Catholic Religious Medals. In the summer, Declan is an ocean lifeguard for the Spray Beach Borough of Long Beach Township. This past summer was his second summer as an ocean lifeguard. Before lifeguarding, Declan completed three years of lifeguard training. His favorite memories from North are messing around with his friends in class, the hallways, in the pool, and on the tennis courts. Declan plans on majoring in electrical engineering. He is applying to Princeton University, Lehigh University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and several others.
September Athletes of the Month
Christopher Hale
Class of 2019

Christopher Hale is co-captain of the varsity soccer team. Chris plays center defender. He is the leader from the center back position and controls the team’s overall shape and defense. Chris epitomizes a successful student-athlete as he demonstrates top form on the field and in the classroom. One of his strongest skills is maintaining composure while still managing to be both energetic and enthusiastic. He brings intensity to both practices and games. Chris is a good passer, has good field vision, and is successful at winning 50/50 balls using his heading skills. He plays physically, enabling him to stay with an opposing player. Earlier this year, Chris had a personal best when he scored two goals in the win against Phillipsburg. In the past year, he received the honors of second team-all conference and honorable mention for all area by Lehigh Valley Live. Chris has been a member of the varsity basketball team since his sophomore year. He is an active member in Peer Leaders, Interact and Able, Superintendent Student Advisory Committee, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta), and Spanish Honor Society. Chris is also a peer tutor for math and science. His favorite memories from North are attending the sporting events, participating in the Jungle, and participating as a Special Olympics coach. Chris plans to attend a liberal arts college in the northeast and plans to concentrate in mathematics. Depending what school he attends will determine whether he plays soccer and basketball at the varsity or club level.
Caroline Petrie
Class of 2019

Captain of the Field Hockey Team, Caroline Petrie plays the position of goalie. Caroline’s strongest skill is her ability to work well under pressure. Since she is a goalie, she is often faced with crucial shots that could either make or break the game where it is important to keep calm. Caroline is great at getting the team pumped up. She has the ability to bring positivity and optimism to every game, even if it is against a top 20 team. Recently, the team was able to beat Pingry (1-0) in overtime. The win was even more special since Pingry was undefeated until then. The whole team came together, everyone was on their A-game, and the team never gave up. To Caroline, everyone on the team is unbelievable and she cannot thank her teammates enough for their endless support. Her goal this year is to break 200 saves. The team is working towards beating Voorhees and winning a conference and/or state championship. #roadtostates. Caroline has also played JV Lacrosse at North. She is currently a Peer Leader and was previously a member of Teen PEP. She is the secretary of National Honor Society and is a member of Science Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Caroline’s nickname is Peach. She has been playing field hockey since her freshman year when she decided to play two weeks before tryouts. Caroline can be found playing in the off-season for OMEGA Field Hockey Club. She plans to continue playing in college. She is not sure yet if she will play at the varsity or club level, it all depends on where she goes to school. Caroline plans on studying biology or criminal justice and Spanish.

Milk Can Game
The 43 rd  Annual Milk Can Football Game, North vs. Voorhees, will be on Friday, October 26, 2018. This year, the game will be held at North Hunterdon High School. Kick-off is at 7:15pm.

HISTORY OF THE MILK CAN:
In 1975, Voorhees High opened, sending students from six of 12 sending districts over to the new school instead of North Hunterdon.  Longtime sports writer for The Hunterdon County Democrat and Hunterdon Review, Lowell M. Snare ,  decided there would be a need for a rivalry trophy, as the two schools planned to play on an annual basis. Snare and then-district superintendent, Clifford Singley – the namesake of North Hunterdon’s home stadium – decided on a gold milk can in homage to Hunterdon County’s farming heritage.
Snare , fellow sports writer Gene Robbins, and local barber Tony DiPietro then painted the stainless steel milk can, which was donated by farmers Bert and Emma Milligan from nearby Union Township, with 18 karat gold paint. The Milligans’ son, Joseph, was a former North Hunterdon wrestler who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Joseph Milligan presented the trophy at the third game, a North Hunterdon victory in 1978, after being released from captivity. (NJ.Com 11/2014)

German Club
Do you enjoy celebrating German culture? The German Club does!! On Saturday, September 15, 2018, the combined German Clubs & Honor Societies of North Hunterdon & Hunterdon Central High Schools marched and sang up 5th Avenue in NYC in the 61st Annual Von Steuben Parade. A total of 55 people attended including three generations from one family - North Senior, Annaliese Molzen, her mother Jennifer Molzen, and her grandmother, Ann Meisenbacher, all beautifully dressed in blue & white dirndls: traditional German folk dresses.

An authentic Oktoberfest style luncheon followed the parade where participants enjoyed a little bit of "Munich in Manhattan". In addition to tasting various foods, the students performed German songs to the delight of fellow restaurant patrons. The Von Steuben Parade is an annual celebration of German-American culture that takes place on 5th Avenue in NYC on the third Saturday of September to coincide with the official start of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.  A great time was had by all!
