hear the latest news from elected officials, corridor representatives, civic leaders, neighbors, and business owners. Enjoy f ree coffee and breakfast items.Meetings start promptly at 7:30am and wrap up by 9am. WCCA meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (except December) at 1560 Teller St., Lakewood 80214  Remember . . . No meeting in December!  Our first general meeting in 2019 is on January 16th. Mark your calendar!
 
Record Attendance at November's West Colfax Art Crawl in 40 West Arts District

40 West Arts District celebrated its largest West Colfax Art Crawl of the year for Diá de los Muertos last First Friday, November 2.

Fire spinners, Aztec dancers, face painters, tarot readers, and the eclectic art at 40 West Arts District's ever-growing number of galleries offered a wide array of creative experiences for the estimated 4,000+ attendees in the district that evening. Pirate Contemporary Art has been hosting Diá de los Muertos celebrations for 30+ years and was one of the focal points of the evening. Thank you to all for making the last Art Crawl of the year an unbelievable success! Don't forget! CBCA Economic Activity Study Showcases More Momentum in Colorado's Creative Economy
 
The Colorado Business Committee for the Arts ( CBCA) released its economic activity study on November 1st, detailing record-breaking employment and attendance in the nonprofit cultural sector and increased expenditure on cultural tourism. 

The study highlights, " the cultural community's continued positive impact on the region's economic vitality, workforce development and overall quality of life."
 
A snapshot from the study reveals total economic activity reached $1.9 billion in 2017 (the highest ever), a 40% increase in capital spending, an 8.5% increase in cultural attendance and school children outreach, and a 35% increase in adult and youth class enrollment between 2015-2017. City of Lakewood Plans Year-long Celebration for for Its 50th Anniversary

The Lakewood moniker and the general area we all associate with it have been in public records since the mid 1880s, but the official charter for The City of Lakewood didn't occur until1969! That's why we're all gearing up for the City's 50th anniversary celebration in 2019. Lakewood officials are busy planning festivities slated to take place throughout the year. Lakewood's historic West Colfax corridor, the oldest section of the city, and its civic and cultural organizations will be active participants in the ongoing celebrations. Lonnie Hanzon-designed Christmas Tree Lights Up Lamar Station Plaza

Have you seen it? Standing 18-feet tall and glistening with 2000+ lights and ornaments!  It's the Lonnie Hanzon-designed Christmas Tree installed on Friday at Momentum Park in Lamar Station Plaza. Underwritten by the Lakewood-W. Colfax BID, WCCA, and 40 West Arts, the installation of this year's Christmas tree helps celebrate the onset of the holiday season and adds to the ambiance for the plaza's patrons and West Colfax passers-by. The tree, installed by Hanzon Design, is also located on the 40 West ArtLine. Be sure to tag your selfies with #40WestArts, #ArtLine, and #WestColfax to share your beautiful holiday photos. 
Benchmark Hosts World Premiere of 'What You Will' for Its Final Show of the 2018 Season 
 
Benchmark Theatre, located 1/2 block north of West Colfax on Teller Street, will open the world premiere of "What You Will" by playwright Jeffery Newman. Get tickets here.

Mountair Park Community Farm Celebrates "Barn-none" Its Best Harvest Year Ever 
 
Sprout City Farm and the Mountair Park Community celebrated their 5th season of success in 2018. This season the community harvested more than 12,000 pounds of produce and saw more than 1,100 visitors to the farm.  
 
Mountair Park Community Farm is a 1.5-acre organic vegetable farm established in spring of 2014 in partnership with the City of Lakewood. Located at the corner of 13th & Depew St. in the SE corner of Mountair Park, adjacent to the W line light rail tracks, bike path, and 40 West Arts District ArtLine.
West Colfax Kiwanis Celebrates Installation of Officers in Ceremony at 40 West Gallery  
 
The West Colfax Kiwanis hosted guest Kiwanis dignitaries for the official installation of officers for the new chapter. Congratulations to all officers and charter members of West Colfax Kiwanis!

Classic West Colfax T-Shirts Returning for the Holiday Season 
 
Back by popular demand, the two classic "I Love West Colfax" t-shirts are making a come back--just in time for the holidays.
 
The two vintage designs have been re-created and re-digitized and will be available for pre-order by early December.  There's also a rumor in the neighborhood that a third new design might also make an appearance.  Stay tuned to social media and future newsletters for details. 
 
 
The West Metro Chamber Chairman's Gala Opens Nominations for 2019 
 
The West Metro Chamber is honoring businesses, individuals and organizations from Jefferson County, at the 2019 Chairman's Gala. Nominations for small, large, and medium businesses that have made an impact on the community are open until November 30th.

40 West Artist Robert Hickler Dedicates Sculpture at Belmar's Young AmeriTowne  

40 West Studios Sculpture Artist Robert Hickler was selected to design and create a public art installation at Young AmeriTowne at the Belmar Branch of The Young Americans Bank and celebrated its dedication on Nov. 2. 
 
The art deco-inspired design of the seven-foot tall sculpture sits just outside the building's main entrance, welcoming the thousands of  visitors to Belmar's Young AmeriTowne facility each year. Congratulations Robert! 
 
WestFax Brewing Company Hosts Day of Dark Beers & Cosmic Beer Party
 
WestFax Brewing Company is inviting you to, "Skip everything miserable about Black Friday and come to WestFax for a DARK BEER tap takeover."  
 
On Black Friday, Nov. 23, the brewery will tap seven new dark beer kegs at 11 am. At 6 pm their tap room will turn into a party with black lights, glow sticks, and a live DJ.

The Action Center Hits $1 Million Goal and Will Serve 5,000 Thanksgiving Meals
The Action Center announced it met its $1 million fundraising goal to achieve financial stability.  The 50-year-old non-profit  closed its homeless shelter  in June after a "...year of leadership transition and revenue loss," led to a gap in operating funds. T he center has provided  school supplies for JeffCo students , Thanksgiving meals for around 5,000 people, emergency utility and financial help and other meals. Read the article here.
 
Artists Wanted For Lakewood's Earth Day Celebration 
Earth Day is April 27, 2019 and Lakewood is seeking talented artists for this years poster design! The winning design will be used on posters, banners, T-shirts, and more, and the artists will receive a $200 prize. The festival will work to spread environmental awareness and feature music, food, art, exhibits, and much more to bring the community together. City of Lakewood Lights Up For the Holidays
The City of Lakewood is inviting all to bring their families, friends, and neighbors for the annual lighting celebration at the Lakewood Heritage Center. Mayor Adam Paul will start festivities with a tree lighting ceremony at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, November 30. There will be wagon rides, festive live music and roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate.
