Look Out for Redcoats on
The Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail Foundation and Downtown Boston BID offer the opportunity to experience British soldiers in 18th-century Redcoat uniforms reenacting guard duty like it's 1775.

This historical program utilizes experienced Freedom Trail Players, costumed in the attire of 18th-century British soldiers, who bring the daily actions and atmosphere of British-occupied Boston to life. Residents and visitors can meet the soldiers and engage them in talk about their postings in the hostile environment of colonial Boston as they "occupy" Downtown Boston on Washington, Summer, and Winter streets. The Freedom Trail's Changing the Guard takes place through October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 2 pm

The Power of Women Shined at Boston Fashion Week's Opening Night Party

Boston Fashion Week's Opening Night Party theme was "Power of Women: The Future of Boston Fashion," and that power was certainly on display Sunday night at Exchange at 100 Federal Street

Boston Fashion Week Founder & Executive Director Jay Calderin greeted the crowd and started by thanking a very important woman in his life -- his mother. "I have to give her credit for raising a man who really appreciates women." After the applause ended, Calderin said he's learned from, and been inspired by many women in the fashion industry. He added how moved he was that many attendees brought their daughters as their plus-one to the event.
Legendary couturier Yolanda Cellucci spoke about her daughter and model, Linda Cole Petrosian, who died in 2018. This year's Boston Fashion Week is dedicated in her memory.

Before the fashion show started the audience was treated to a video made by Nicole O'Connor of Shanachie Studios and Eric Leone of Paul Horton Visuals, which provided in-depth profiles of the event's featured designers.

"It's a different kind of experience. I've never been part of something that focuses strictly on women like this. We're all very different. We all have a very different aesthetic. And we all have a story to tell," said Melina Cortes-Nmili of lalla bee, in the video.

"The Downtown Boston BID's Boston Fashion Week events are incredibly popular and successful because we have such strong partnerships with Jay Calderin and stylist Terri Mahn," said Kristen Flanagan, project manager for the Downtown Boston BID, who organizes the BID's BFW events. "Jay and Terri create amazing events that attract audiences spanning all ages. Whether you're a seasoned veteran in the fashion industry, or attending an event for the first time, we make Boston Fashion Week events accessible for everyone."
At the end of the show the
models lined the runway and several
popped balloons full of confetti!

MP Boston Finalizes Agreement to Purchase  Winthrop Square Garage Site,
Work Starts on  691-Foot Tower

MP Boston (nee Millennium Partners) announced on Thursday that the company had finalized an agreement to purchase the site of the Winthrop Square Garage from the City of Boston. Work on the 691-foot tall tower was to begin immediately, and is expected to be finished in 2022.

"This is a day of celebration for all of Boston as we move forward on our promise to create a transformative project," said Joe Larkin, principal of MP Boston and BID board member, to The Boston Globe. "The invigorating three-year process has resulted in what will be a better building, and a better Boston."

"I am pleased that the 115 Winthrop Square project continues to move forward, paving the way for hundreds of millions of dollars of investments in affordable housing and open space in Boston," said Mayor Martin Walsh via a statement. "The project will transform a dilapidated garage into a dynamic mixed-use downtown tower, creating a more vibrant and resilient downtown while generating needed funding that will lift up our neighborhoods."

Rev. Amy McCreath Installed as Dean of Cathedral Church of St. Paul

Rev. Amy McCreath was officially installed as the ninth dean, and first woman, of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul on Sept. 29th. Bishop Alan Gates performed the official installation.
Left to right: Bishop Gayle E. Harris, Rev. Amy McCreath, Bishop Alan M. Gates, Bishop Barbara C. Harris and Bishop Bud Cederholm

"Cathedrals historically have functioned as the spiritual, social and theological 'downtown' of their dioceses," said McCreath. "We are also in a neighborhood that has been changing rapidly, where the ultra-wealthy are moving into luxury condos but walk along the sidewalks with college students, tourists, unhoused people, state legislators and the business community. Where can this rich diversity of people come together to form community? Where might they go in times of crisis or civic unrest? I want the cathedral to deepen its connections and creatively explore its potential to be a 'downtown' within the Downtown Crossing neighborhood."

McCreath began her work as cathedral dean in April. She is also a member of the Episcopal Church General Convention's Task Force on Church Planting and Congregational Redevelopment and a member of the Council of Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission. Before St. Paul, she was the rector of the Church of Good Shepherd in Watertown for eight years, the co-chaplain of the Lutheran Episcopal Ministry at M.I.T. and was the coordinator of its Technology and Culture Forum.
