On January 11, 2019, Jacksonville Beach lost its former Mayor,
Fland Sharp.
From his obituary in the
Sharp was a unique product of his time and place. Born in 1950 and raised in Jacksonville Beach, he
became a quintessential elder of the community: Captain of the American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps, two-time winner of the Meninak Ocean Marathon, sixteen years on the Jacksonville Beach City Council including two terms as Mayor, successful local businessman, lifelong surfer and
sailing enthusiast. Both in and
out of elected office, he was dedicated to preserving the special quality of life found only on “The Island.”

City Council is gearing up for a busy year! We are currently looking at the best ways to work with the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on how to move Jax Beach into the future. The CRA focuses on downtown Jax Beach, as well as the Southend Redevelopment area. If you have ideas, concerns, or information that you think will help enhance our community to make it an even better place to live, work, and play, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
Crossing 3rd Street S.
FDOT PIO Contact Information, District 2

800-207-8236

I have been in touch with the FDOT about safety and pedestrian crossings on 3rd St (A1A). Since it is a state road, any changes must go through the state, not Jax Beach.
The FDOT is in the process of analyzing the available data on any accidents or reported incidents. However, there are many 'near misses' and other incidents that are not reported.
If you have experienced unsafe conditions when trying to cross 3rd Street, please contact the FDOT with the date , a description of the incident , and the location . This is the only way to ensure that what residents experience in the intersections will be known so that corrections can be made.
Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Retires
After 27 years of service to Jacksonville Beach, Police Chief Patrick K. Dooley has retired. The City had a retirement celebration for him on January 25th where his family, friends, and colleagues gathered to wish him and his wife, Cathy, best wishes for their next adventure together.
A national search for our new police chief will start in February, and is expected to take about four months to complete.
Beach Renourishment is done!
A total of 880,000 cubic yards of sand were placed on the beaches, and 80,000 of that was used to repair the dunes damaged from Hurricanes Matthew and Irma.
Do you want to learn more about the beach renourishment project?

Together, we will make a difference.
Let's continue work together to ensure that Jacksonville Beach remains one of the greatest places to call home! Reach out if you have any questions or concerns about what is happening in your neighborhood or City.
