Scheduling Season is Here!
The scheduling window opens today, February 1st and closes February 15th at midnight. Counselors presented in classrooms on 1/30 for current Freshman, 1/31 for current Sophomores, and will have presented on 2/1 for current Juniors. If your student has questions about scheduling, they can sign up to meet with counselors during FLEX (February 5th, 7th, 12th, and 14th) or drop-in during lunch. Please visit our Counseling website for materials and instructions regarding scheduling.  
February is Career and Technical Education Month®(CTE)
CTE Month® takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
CTE is education that directly prepares students for high-wage, high-demand careers. CTE covers many different fields, including health care, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management and many more. CTE encompasses many different types of education, from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities outside the classroom.

Foothill PTSA Nominating Committee
Foothill PTSA's Nominating Committee was voted in at the Jan 23 Association Meeting. Thank you to Tammy Yau, Huiling Song, Madeline Conrad, and Jun Xue (alternate). Our nominating committee is working hard to fill as many positions as possible BEFORE this school year ends.

Foothill PTSA Seeks New Leaders
The Foothill PTSA is seeking new board and committee members who can add new perspectives and experiences in order to serve our students!

Volunteer as an Outdoor Ed Counselor
Attention Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors! Do you love working with kids? Do you love spending time out in nature? Consider volunteering as an Outdoor Ed Counselor and join us for a week of fun in the redwood forest, at the beach, a tide pool and
more! Develop and sharpen leadership skills! Earn up to 100 community service hours! Receive a reference letter for college, internship and job applications! Be a hero to a 5th or 6th grader.

Middle College Applications Open Until February 8
The Middle College High School program at Las Positas College is an alternative educational program that provides high school students the opportunity to complete their last two years of high school at Las Positas College, earning high school and college credits. Now accepting applications thru February 8th for students in the Classes of 2020 and 2021 for the 2019-2020 school year. For more information, see your counselor, check out the website   tvrop.org . Pleasanton Police Officer's Association Seeking Volunteers for 1st Annual Crab Feed
This fundraising event will support multiple non-profit organizations serving children, families and our community, including #kylekickscancer, a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. There are many volunteer positions available and some have age and work restrictions. PUSD Leaders Unite to Support Full and Fair Funding for Public Education   
Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent David Haglund, Board President Valerie Arkin, Association of Pleasanton Teachers (APT) President Janice Clark and Classified School Employees Association (CSEA) President Laura Martinez ask community members in a joint letter released on Friday to join their call to local and state elected officials to provide full and fair funding for public education and Pleasanton students. New Tri-Valley SAT Testing Center
Las Positas College has been designated as a new SAT Testing Center for Saturday, March 9, 2019 . This is a wonderful option for our students in the Tri-Valley area who plan on taking the exam this Spring.

Tri-Valley Special Needs Resource & Transition Fair on February 2nd
Join us on Saturday, February 2nd for the Tri-Valley Special Needs Resource and Transition Fair. Registration and attendance are FREE. The vendor fair will feature nearly 50 Tri-Valley service providers, public agencies, family resources and support groups. The vendor fair and registration will open at 9:30am. The event will also feature 9 speakers, from 10am-2pm, organized into three tracks that are focused by age group:
TRACK 1: Early Intervention to Elementary
TRACK 2: Middle School and Transitions to High School
TRACK 3: High School and Transitions to Adulthood

Employment Options for Young Adults w/ Disabilities
3rd Anuual Parenting Forum on Saturday, Feb. 9th
PUSD Adult and Career Education is partnering with City of Pleasanton, PPIE, and the Pleasanton PTA Council to host the 3rd Annual Parenting Forum on February 9, 2019 at Harvest Park Middle School . This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Wendy Mogel , who will share insights on how to avoid over-parenting, increase resilience in youth, and reduce family stress. Participants in this free Saturday event can choose from a variety of topics for a deeper study session immediately following the keynote. Foothill Journalism is ready to announce the release of its 2018/19 winter issue! This issue features coverage of recent events around campus, various opinion pieces about a diverse array of issues, and student submissions of their own fiction pieces and artwork. Founded in 2017, the team publishes the  Talon Times  quarterly and is looking for interested writers, reporters, photographers, and designers to join its staff. Weekly meetings are in D-12, Mrs. Crawbuck's room, during lunch on Wednesdays. Adult Education Spring Classes
Spring classes for adults are open for registration! 
  • Conversational ItalianConversational Mandarin, and Conversational Spanish: These six week classes are perfect for those ready to expand their language skills in a fun learning environment!  The first sessions begin on February 5. Flyers are linked
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Typing: Start a foundation or build on existing skills in our lab-based computer classes, which start on February 5th.
  • Parenting Forum w/Wendy Mogel: Join us for the 3rd annual Parenting Forum on Saturday, February 9, at Harvest Park Middle School! After our keynote we'll have breakout sessions on topics including: Supporting Your Child Through Stress, Building Resilience, Personal Best is Enough, and more!
Modern Day Substance Use Education & Treatment
February 26th - 6:00-8:30pm, Village High School MPR
This free informational class is designed to provide an overview of the most current educational information on
Alcoholism, Addiction and other Substance Use Disorders. It will focus on guidance, support and treatment
options for individuals and their families. This one night class is great for any community members that want
to advance their understanding of these topics, as well as for health and mental health care providers.

Pick Up Jostens Grad Announcements Feb 4
SENIORS: Your graduation announcements will be delivered on Monday, February 4 during lunch (12:30pm -1:00pm) in the Quad T his is the only delivery day so all seniors must pick up their graduation announcements at this time.   
Local Scholarships for Graduating Seniors
Rotary Club of Pleasanton
Are you planning to continue your education beyond high school? This year the Rotary Club of Pleasanton is able to provide $30,000 in scholarships! Scholarships range from $250 - $6,000. Main criteria for selection is financial need. Must be a graduating senior from a Pleasanton high school or a graduating home-schooled Pleasanton resident. Must plan to attend a full-time at a community or 4-yr college, vocational, or trade school. Applications available at www.pleasantonrotary.org. Deadline is March 31, 2019.
*Dependents of Rotarians are NOT eligible.

Amador Valley Scholarships , Inc. offers scholarships to graduating seniors from Foothill, Village and Amador High Schools who plan to attend community college, vocational/technical schools, 4 year colleges/universities. Students fill out one (1) application and will be considered for eleven (11) scholarships.

Tri-Valley Retired Educators are pleased to offer scholarships to students planning to pursue a career in education.  Detailed information and application forms in Naviance .

If you have made the decision to attend  Las Positas College  next year, this event is for you!

On February 7th we are offering a one-of-a-kind event to take any seniors planning to attend LPC to the school campus to REGISTER for the upcoming school year!  

Free bus transportation, orientation and lunch provided.

This is the opportunity to register right there on campus with LPC staff ready to answer all of your questions!

16th Annual Black College Expo™ February 9th
This event highlights over 50 of the 104 historically black colleges and universities (HBCU's), along with other higher learning institutions and educational services. It was developed 18 years ago to serve as a vital link between minorities and college admissions. Although the purpose is to educate ALL students about HBCUs and the college admission process, you'll find public colleges, private colleges, ivy leagues, baby ivies, and even military colleges on site. Best of the West College Fair, February 7th
Select PAC-12 institutions are coming together nearby to help students and families prepare to navigate the college selection process. Hear about admissions, scholarships, and student-life, as well as unique opportunities available to you from multiple universities all in one place.

2019 Education Summit at Cal State East Bay
A free educational event for first- generation, African American, Asian American, Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander Students and their families. 
All are welcome to attend. Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Cal State East Bay in the University Gymnasium, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd, Hayward, CA 94542.
Program Highlights:  Learn how to prepare for college through presentations and workshops for middle and high school students. Cash for College Workshop
Senior Families! Need help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act (CADAA) and Chafee Grant for Foster Youth applications? Sari Haskell from AVHS and Molly Allen from FHS have been trained by Cash for College and have volunteered to organize a free workshop on Thursday, February 21 in the AVHS Library from 6-8pm - just before the March 2nd state deadline.
 Seniors Community Service Hours Due 3/1
All seniors must complete their 20 hours of community service in order to graduate. The deadline for submission in the Class of 2019 Google classroom online (all seniors have been invited) is March 1 . Community service from any year in high school counts. If student are not sure if they have uploaded community service proof, check the Google classroom. If a 1/1 shows as graded, they are done. We have some exciting fundraisers going on!
We are also still looking for corporate sponsors for our Safe and Sober Grad Nite.  It is going to be a fabulous event, but we need financial help to get us there! (sponsor letter attached)
