Tammy Davis and I had a blast at our 3rd Annual Shoe + Tell, educating our newer dancers about dance shoes! Some went home with a "new" pair of dance shoes too, thanks to all who contributed their gently worn shoes. Until next year!

CSDS Annual Membership Meeting
& Board of Directors Election

MD dance pro Erica Smith makes her first visit to CSDS to be the guest instructor/DJ for our March 16th dance! We're excited to welcome Erica to Charlottesville after having the pleasure of seeing her at DC area dances and weekend events! She'll teach the pre-dance lesson (Beginner West Coast Swing) from 7-8 pm and then spin the tunes from 8-11 pm. After we break for announcements, our annual membership meeting and Board of Directors election, Erica and the rest of her JT Swing Team DC will perform their latest routine! C-ville Westies Maria Ferrara, Alaina Sewell and Barbara Frost are on the team so we can't wait to see it!
SCHEDULE:
7:00 - 8:00 pm: Lesson (inc. in admission)
8:00 - 11:00 pm: Dance
ADMISSION:
- $10 CSDS Members

- $5 Students (FT w/ID) & First-Timers
- $5 for CSDS Members with March Birthdays :-)
- Children Under 16 are Free (no childcare services)
FOOTWEAR: please wear either dance shoes or light-colored soles; whatever you wear must be non-marking!
PARKING & INCLEMENT WEATHER:
As parking is limited, we encourage you to carpool to our dance. In the event of inclement weather, we will post any schedule updates/changes on our public FB page (you don't have to have an account), by 1 pm.

Board of Directions Election
March is CSDS' annual membership meeting and Board of Directors election.
During the break, we'll hold our Board of Directors election for the 2019-2020 term. If you'd like to nominate someone (including yourself!), please contact
Lisa Morales
who, along with John Robertson, once again comprise our Nominating Committee. You can read our public bylaws here. The vote may be
held by acclamation if all nominations are uncontested, or by ballot if any nominations are contested. Thank you to our current Board of Directors, along with our trusty stable of "Helpers," for their past year(s) of service:

Secretary: Gaia Read
Treasurer: Jim Naffin
Directors: Katie Bigelow, Mark DeBow, Rob Tran
The term of the newly elected Directors will begin on April 1st, 2019 with officers being selected at the new Board's first meeting in April.
Why should I consider being on the CSDS Board, you might ask?! Well, there are some great reasons: it's fun/social, it's a great way to deepen the friendships with others on the board and it's a great way to give back to your dance community.
Most importantly though, it's necessary for CSDS to exist!
And, the Directors are joined by a group of "Helpers" which makes for less work all around. So we hope you'll think about taking a turn to serve CSDS and your local dance community and consider being on the Board. :-)

Group Classes with Kristin!
 Kristin Wenger's next session of Tuesday night group classes, through our community partner, the County of Albemarle Parks & Rec Dept., begins March 5th! West Coast Swing Level 2 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, and Nightclub 2-Step Level 1 from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Classes are held at the Murray High School gym, the same location as CSDS' Swing Swap on Thursday nights.

Upcoming Weekend Dance Events
MADjam in Baltimore is the next area weekend dance event (workshops, social dancing, competitions, performances, shoe + dance wear vendors!), February 28th through March 3rd; many C-ville Westies will be there with some taking to the competition floor. You can watch it online for free, all weekend, at
DanceJamTV (thanks, Dave!). Can't make it to MADjam? Then mark your calendars, and go ahead and reserve a hotel room (you can always cancel it later) for the next drivable events,
Swing Fling, August 8th-11th, in Herndon, VA, and
Trilogy Swing, September 5th-8th, in Raleigh-Durham, NC.

Adela is often the Table/Group Dinner Organizer for events attended by Charlottesville Westies ~ if you're planning to go to any of these or other events, let her know! And reserve your hotel room ASAP as the event hotels usually sell out well in advance; you can always cancel it later. Don't wait until you decide to go to book your room; it will be too late!
Gaia Read often organizes roadtrips from Charlottesville for the DC/MD/NoVA dances/events; contact her if you're interested in carpooling sometime.
