ZESTFEST FESTIVAL

Mitcham Library Service is presenting several sessions as part of our participation in Zest Fest this year at the Cumberland Park Community Centre on Wednesday 10 October.  There will also be a number of other sessions, workshops and information centred around modern ageing and connection between generations.

Do you love reading and talking about books? Bring along a book you have read and enjoyed to talk about to fellow book lovers at our Pop-Up Book Group. Learn about how a book group operates, what the Mitcham Library Service can offer groups and how you could get involved if you wish.  
 
Book Conservation and
Repair with Artlab Australia | 9.30am - 11am
Is there a book in your collection that needs some repair or special care? Join Conservators from Artlab Australia for an illustrated talk about their work in book conservation, book care and repair techniques. Includes a practical demonstration of making a book folder to protect your treasured volume. Limited number of individual book conservation consultations available following the talk. (Consultation bookings essential.) 
 

Tech Savvy | 11.15am-12.45pm
Find out about how your library can help you become more "Tech Savvy" and connected in today's digital world.  Learn about some of the great resources that are available to you digitally. A limited number of 
pre-booked places are available for more personalised guidance at the end of the session.

PROJECT UPDATE -  MITCHAM MEMORIAL LIBRARY & BROWNHILL CREEK REDEVELOPMENT

Completed Works
  • Completion of structural steel frame (eastern footprint of structure).  
  • Connection of existing library structure to Eastern structure.  
  • Demolition of the existing library partitions and ceilings.
  • Installation of purlins and exterior wall framing.
  • Successful completion/ opening of northern car park
  • Completed pour/ curing of suspended slab
  • Completion of hydraulic provisions to underside of suspended slab.
  • Commencement of installation of mechanical service ducts to new structure.   
  • Installation of ATF vision site surveillance cameras.
Upcoming Works
  • Installation of box gutters and roofing sheets.
  • Cladding to exterior of building.
  • Installation of partition walls to existing library.
  • Installation of external aluminium windows and door frames.

Did you know the libraries recycled over 70 kg of used batteries and mobile phones last year?

The Libraries are collection points for batteries, phones and chargers. 

When we receive your mobiles and accessories, everything will be recycled in a secure and safe process to the highest environmental standards. Nothing will be resold and any data left on mobiles will be destroyed through the recycling process.
