JAC members with Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) in Chicago. (l to r: David Golder, Marcia Balonick, Sen. Durbin, Mark Zivin)

Is your JAC membership current? Do you have a friend or family member that would like to join JAC?

Last year your membership helped turn the House blue while making history. JAC was involved in 111 races and sent 85 candidates to Congress. There is now a record number of women, many in leadership, serving in Congress.

We are already seeing changes with the new Congress. The House is poised to vote and pass a comprehensive background check bill on all firearm sales. Legislation has been introduced in the House and Senate to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Congress is committed to dealing with prescription drug costs, voter suppression, climate change, and protecting reproductive rights.

While this is very exciting, it does not mean out work is done. Members of Congress still need to hear our voices. We cannot take for granted their support of our issues. That is why we must call and visit with them about our issues.

We need to keep up the momentum by working hard to keep the House, win a Senate majority and take back the White House. Don't forget: the fate of the Supreme Court lies with the White House and Senate.

At JAC, we have been tirelessly working for more than 30 years to elect candidates to Congress who will stand for you and our families. These candidates are our voice -- and power.

We are already gearing up to ensure that 2020 is even more successful that 2018. But we can't do that without you.

Please consider renewing your JAC membership TODAY or making an additional donation to JAC.

Thank you for your continued support.

ISRAEL
Netanyahu Appears to Say War with Iran Is Common Goal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu startled Iranians and even the White House on Wednesday with a strident call for Israeli-Arab action against the government in Tehran that was translated by his office as urging "war with Iran." Although Israeli officials tried to soften the reference by altering the English translation, the provocative comment was likely to further the perception that Israel, its Gulf Arab neighbors and the United States are interested in using military action to topple the government of Iran.

ANTI-SEMITISM & BDS
When the Right and Left Fight over Anti-Semitism, Jews Are Caught in the Middle

[I]t's important to notice the fundamental hypocrisy in allowing those who have a terrible track record on anti-Semitism or any other form of bigotry to co-opt the conversation. We can't allow the loudest voices on both sides of the political spectrum shout over the vast majority of Jews.  It makes for a crushing feeling of powerlessness. The nation is having a conversation about Jews virtually impervious to the input of Jews themselves.

CHOICE
Trump Has Done Much for Abortion Foes and They Love Him for It

Abortion foes are one group standing enthusiastically with President Trump as he seeks reelection next year, delighted the president has prioritized their cause over his two years in office and freshly invigorated by his eagerness to describe abortion in strong terms and call for its end.

'He Was in His Face': Trump Fumes over Abortion, Courts Evangelicals

Last week, President Donald Trump was hosting religious leaders and lawmakers for dinner at the White House when he spotted Democratic Senator Chris Coons. Trump confronted the Delaware lawmaker - who attended the event as the Prayer Breakfast's official Democratic co-chair - over the issue of abortion, creating a tense scene in the White House's Blue Room, according to three sources familiar with the exchange.
BEYOND THE CORE
Parkland Shooting: Where Gun Control and School Safety Stand Today

The Parkland students became a force for gun control legislation and boosted the youth vote. Here's how they changed America's response to mass shootings. In the weeks after the shooting, busloads of Stoneman Douglas students took their case to the Florida capital and to Washington. With a rallying cry of "Never Again," they gathered support from other young people and activists, and their March for Our Lives campaign spurred huge rallies and hundreds of protests, including a nationwide school walkout.

POLITICAL BYTE
Every Day Is a New Low in Trump's White House

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, my first full day on the job as acting director of the FBI, I sat down with senior staff involved in the Russia case-the investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. As the meeting began, my secretary relayed a message that the White House was calling. The president himself was on the line. I had spoken with him the night before, in the Oval Office, when he told me he had fired James Comey.

He Put Dracula on the Big Screen, and Saved Hundreds of Jews from a Real Monster

After losing control of the movie studio that introduced audiences to Dracula and Frankenstein, Carl Laemmle had a vital final mission. Formerly the head of what is today Universal Pictures, Laemmle worked to save fellow Jews from Hitler in the 1930s, despite opposition from the U.S. State Department. By the time of his death in 1939, he had rescued over 300 Jewish families.

The Last Word
"Clearest sign that [Donald] Trump's [emergency] is not legitimate? The President himself says he didn't need to declare a national emergency - it's just a faster way to force taxpayers to foot the bill after Congress wouldn't let him have his way."
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs (JACPAC) is a pro-Israel PAC with a domestic agenda. We support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and advocate for reproductive health and the separation of religion and state and incorporate other issues of importance to the Jewish community, including gun violence prevention and climate change. In addition to providing financial support for U.S. Senate and House campaigns, JACPAC educates our membership with outreach events designed to inform and activate their participation in the political process.
Federal law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and employer for each individual who contributes over $200 in a calendar year. Maximum contribution per person may not exceed $5,000 per calendar year. According to law, JACPAC cannot accept corporate contributions. Membership, gifts, or other payments to JACPAC are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
