The mid-term elections are Tuesday, November 6. Do you have a plan to vote before traveling to the ANAC conference or do you need an absentee ballot? The U.S. Vote Foundation has information about registration deadlines and absentee ballots for every state. Share with someone you know and encourage them to vote!

Gala Reception
Thursday, November 8
7:30 - 10 p.m. 
 
ANAC2018 attendees will enjoy food served with a cash bar. Local entertainment and a DJ will provide an atmosphere for networking and fun. The theme for this year's gala is Colorado Gold Rush. Costumes are optional - anything related to gold is good!


Celebration of Life
Saturday, November 10
5:30- 6:30 p.m. 
 
The Celebration of Life will be a short but powerful gathering to remember those we have lost, celebrate our collective spirit and share memories of friends and family. 
Research

Pre-conference session
The ANAC research committee is hosting "Secondary Data Analyisis: Get In Where You Fit In" at ANAC2018. This pre-conference session is intended for novice and experienced nurse researchers. It will feature dynamic presentations by investigators who have expertise in the use of secondary data analysis, including Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR) data. Register here.
Chapters

Get involved in your local chapter
Many of our U.S.-based chapters are currently recruiting and nominating candidates for chapter leadership. Chapter leadership not only allows you to engage with your local members about nursing and other healthcare issues it can be a pathway for nomination to the national ANAC board. Find your local chapter here. 

Palm Springs to start new chapter

2018 UN General Assembly
Last week, the 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session was held. The UNGA brings together leaders and advocated to tackle global issues, including health care and pandemics, and to assess progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Two important announcements were made during the meetings:
  • A multi-nation commitment to mobilize $13 billion for universal access to quality prevention, diagnosis and treatment for 40 million people with tuberculosis and preventing the infection in 30 million more people by 2022. Read more.
  • Seed Global Health launched a five-year strategy to address health disparities, including training and support for midwives, nurses and physicians. Read more.
JANAC

Keeping up with JANAC
JANAC will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary in 2019! We will celebrate by continuing our efforts to bring the best information on HIV nursing and HIV health care to you every other month. In addition, JANAC will be moving to a new publishing house in January 2019. The first issue of JANAC in 2019 will come from Lippincott/Wolters Kluwer, and it will be a special issue on HIV and Aging.

We have learned that JANAC's new impact factor is 1.418 - an all-time high! Thank you to all of our readers, reviewers, authors, board members, editors and ANAC - we couldn't do it without you!

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Health Equity
AIDS United and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation are seeking nominations for the Robert Woof Johnson Foundation Award for Health Equity. Nominations are due October 19. Submit a nomination.
