St Joseph High School - A Catholic College Prep School
Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul…, says Ishmael, reflecting on the open sea (Moby Dick).

November could easily be the cruelest month…were it not for the fourth Thursday, and All Saints Day, and there's All Souls Day, and Veteran’s Day. No, November may never be the cheeriest of months, but there is comfort in remembering. On the 19 th , we will have a Mass of Remembrance, when we give thanks for the saints who have gone before us, for all our friends and family members who have passed, those who have served. We’ll remember especially Mr Ken Mayo, who served St Joes for 38 years, and all his colleagues who have come and gone. We will remember parents and grandparents, and alumni, who each worked in weaving this community of believers that we call St Joes. And when we have recalled all those who have made us who we are, we will arrive at Thanksgiving, truly grateful and truly cheerful. For the great God who giveth and taketh according to His will has blessed this house. We remember and give thanks.

~ Dr Fitzgerald, Head of School
St Joe's Maroon & Gold Gala a Great Success!
St Joseph High School's  Maroon & Gold Gala  was held on Saturday, November 18 at The Waterview and what a night it was! As a community we raised much needed dollars for SJ Scholarships. The generosity of those in attendance and those that bid from home, completely blew us away! The night would not have been as exciting without our incredible auctioneer, Steve D'Agostino 81 P 13, 17!

There are many people to thank that made this event possible. First we are so appreciative of our major sponsors: Maplewood Senior Living – Greg D Smith P ’21, Lorraine & Chris Wilson P 08, 10, 14 and Mustard Seed Foundation.  Click here for a complete list of sponsors and donors . We would also truly like to thank our volunteers - especially Honorary Chairs Brenda & Brian Bellows, P ’07, ’11 as well as our Auction Chair Genevieve Salvatore P ’21, Tuition Raffle co-chairs Kristy Novitsky P  20 and Jennifer Simms P 19, 21 and everyone else who helped on the committees. This night could not have been as successful without the many hours you spent preparing! For a full list of committee members,  click here

Congratulations to the winner of the $15,000 Tuition Raffle, Melissa Santucci!

Once again, thank you to everyone who came the Gala and those who supported from afar. St Joes students are so blessed to have a community that cares so much about them and their education. Your continued support and generosity makes all the difference for students who want to attend our school but need the financial assistance to get here. God Bless you all and we look forward to seeing you all at Gala next year!

Librarian Recommended: Book of the Week!
Something goes wrong with the plane taking Elyse Schmidt and her fellow high school band members home from their trip to Paris. Knowing a crash is imminent, Elyse prays that at least she and her crush, Josh Harris, be saved. The two are the only survivors, and the second part of the novel finds Elyse living an idyllic life with Josh as her boyfriend. To escape the post-crash limelight, the teens and their families move to Wyoming, where Elyse has always felt she belonged, and where she inhabits a dream house and even has a pet horse. But something about Elyse's new, near-perfect existence rankles. Short-term memory lapses prevent her from remembering what happened days or weeks earlier and she doesn't understand why she hasn't grieved over the loss of her best friend, Kath, who died in the crash, or why all the people she's recently met seem vaguely familiar. As the days go on, memories of life before the crash flood her mind, merging with the present until the shocking reveal at the end.
