Our community grieves the loss of more lives to gun violence. On Monday, Sheriff Deputy Mark Stasyuk was killed and Deputy Julie Robertson was injured while responding to a call in Rancho Cordova. We send deep condolences to the County Sheriff's department and the family and friends of Officer Stasyuk and Officer Robertson at this time of senseless loss and injury.
Also on Monday, Azalya Anderson, age 3, was removed from life support after being shot in her home when a bullet shot from outside penetrated the wall of her home. We extend our deep condolences to her family and friends facing this senseless loss.
We know well the pain of loss of loved ones to gun violence.
W
e believe that our communities are safer when there is trust and transparency with law enforcement. We will continue to work to prevent gun violence and to build relationships of accountability and transparency between community and all those who serve.

Civic Engagement Training

Earlier this month, ACT and community leaders engaged in a powerful civic engagement training and planning session led by Sacramento ACT leaders to ensure that communities and their voices impact this election. Leaders broke into groups to talk about the story of self, how to have transformational vs. transactional conversations, and to create a civic engagement plan to uplift the voices of the communities they represent.
