1 more remarkably productive year in the books!

I take pride in being able to use my platforms -- including my website , Facebook , Twitter , Nextdoor , and this monthly newsletter -- to share with you both our office and community’s hard-earned successes. With every post I publish, it is my goal to provide transparency and invite you to see behind the scenes of everything my team and I do.

From community events that bring people together to neighborhood discussions that move policies forward, thank you for being part of what makes District 2 a safe and thriving community. I appreciate you taking time out of your day to read about our work in our District, San José, and beyond.

You can find more details, photos, and resources for our efforts and accomplishments -- including my 2017 year in review -- on my website in my newsletter archive .

I have big plans for 2019, including strengthening community outreach and establishing new projects for my #D2CleanStreets Initiative, my ongoing multi-faceted approach to combating the trash and blight plaguing our streets. I hope you will join me in moving our City forward as we work together to make our neighborhoods a more inclusive place for people like you who call San José home.

A Message from Valley Transportation Authority: VTA is developing a new transit service plan

A changing financial outlook has made it clear that the Next Network Plan that was planned to be implemented when BART service to Santa Clara County begins is not financially sustainable.

VTA’s Board of Directors has asked staff to develop a new plan, which we are calling the 2019 New Transit Plan, that would cost about 4 percent less to operate than the Next Network Plan and would place a greater emphasis on increasing ridership.

VTA staff have developed a draft of the 2019 New Transit Plan that builds on the thousands of points of input VTA received while developing the Next Network Plan.

The Draft 2019 New Transit Plan proposes a number of changes while attempting to uphold Board direction and minimize impacts to current riders. We welcome your feedback and participation.

A message from the Santa Clara Valley Water District:

The winter season is here – are you flood ready? The Santa Clara Valley Water District is committed to keeping residents and businesses safe through its flood protection programs. During storms, our crews actively monitor hot spot locations countywide. Parts of our county are historically prone to flooding and at risk during heavy storms. The water district wants residents to be aware of existing flood risks and be prepared with the help of our flood safety resources on www.valleywater.org/floodready. On our flood ready pages you can determine if your house is in a flood zone, learn about flood insurance, find out where to get sandbags, and sign up to receive emergency notifications through AlertSCC, Santa Clara County’s emergency warning system. You can also keep an eye on streams with our Flood Watch Tool.

The Flood Watch Tool is a helpful stream monitoring map that features information from stream gauges. This tool provides real-time data on stream and reservoir levels, with information on flood risks per stages. View a brief video on how to use the Flood Watch Tool here.

For questions or concerns, email us at info@valleywater.org

Have a D2 question or concern? Contact my team!

You may have met them at City Hall, Neighborhood Meetings, or just out and about in our community! In addition to supporting me at meetings and events -- or attending on my behalf -- my team members follow specific policy areas and have other responsibilities. They are happy to speak or meet with you regarding your questions or concerns!

Get involved: District 2 Neighborhood Associations

Neighborhood Associations (N.A.s) are groups of community members who meet and collaborate to work towards common goals such as: beautification/clean-up efforts, safety enhancements, and social events. N.A.s serve as a connection between the community and City Hall. We are here to support N.A.'s by providing direction, resources, grants, help with outreach, models for success, and more.

View the interactive map of D2 N.A's on my website to find your N.A. or work with my office to start a N.A. in your area!

Reserving meeting space as an N.A.

As an established Neighborhood Association, you may reserve space for community use directly with Libraries and Community Centers in our District. As long as the meeting takes place during regular hours of operation, there is no charge to to your N.A.

If your event goes beyond the hours of operation, there is a charge for staffing. Our office is happy to accommodate 2 uses per N.A. per year for N.A.’s by paying for the staff time. Any additional uses outside of this would require your N.A. to cover the cost.

Please contact the District 2 Office for more information!
