As Catholic Schools Week comes to a close, there are still opportunities for students and the CJ community to celebrate!

On Saturday, Feb. 2., the Eagles men's basketball team will host fellow Marianist high school, Moeller. The Eagles are ranked #1 in the Division II AP poll and the Crusaders are ranked #1 in the Division I AP poll. Tip-off for the freshman game is 3 p.m., JV at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. Pre-sale tickets will be available from the beginning of the school day tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 1 through 4:30 p.m. Adult pre-sale tickets are $6 and student pre-sale tickets are $4.

Following the varsity competition, there will be a Sock Hop in the Mary, Our Lady of Victory gym from 8-9:30 p.m. This event is for CJ students only. Admission is $2 or a new or gently used pair of shoes. All shoes collected will be contributed to a Senior Capstone group that will give the shoes to a Marianist school — St. Mary's Karonga Girls Secondary School in Malawi.
College Credit Plus 2019-2020 Parent/Student Meeting - TONIGHT
Thursday, Jan. 31 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Cafeteria
College Credit Plus is a program that allows high school students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously for courses taken during high school. This includes courses taken at a public college, online through a public college, and courses taught at CJ that have been certified by a college. Best of all, the college credit is free.
You are invited to attend an informational meeting about College Credit Plus for the 2019-2020 school year. Representatives from Wright State University and Sinclair Community College will be in attendance to answer questions. The meeting is Thursday, Jan. 31 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the cafeteria. Please enter through the athletic entrance.

School Schedule Change
Thursday, Apr. 18 - No School
There will be no school on Thursday, Apr. 18. This is due to the CJ community going above and beyond their item and monetary goals during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week in the fall. This will be an extension to the already scheduled Easter break, Friday, Apr. 19 - Friday, Apr. 26. School will resume on Monday, Apr. 29.

The faculty and staff thank those who generously donated desserts for the faculty/staff luncheon to celebrate Catholic Schools Week on Tuesday! We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch and the desserts were a great way to finish a community meal. Sr. Stang Symposium - SAVE THE DATE
Tuesday, Mar. 27 | 7 p.m.
The annual Sr. Stang Symposium will be Tuesday, Mar. 27 beginning at 7 p.m. in the CJ auditorium. The keynote speaker will be Laura Roesch, Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley. The symposium is the showcase of Senior Capstone projects and current juniors are encouraged to attend.

Due to the cancellation of school on Wednesday, we will celebrate our all school Mass this upcoming Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 9:45 a.m. at Emmanuel Church. As planned, we will give thanks to God for the gift of Catholic Education, and we will remember Blessed Adele, Foundress of the Marianist Sisters, who was Beatified last summer by Pope Francis. Please join us for this celebration.

Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer Program
Applications Accepted Through Friday, Feb. 15
Students can register now to take part in the Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer Program this summer. This is a free program where students can earn three college credits from JHU. Application information can be found here.

Eagle Pride 2019
Registration Now Open
Students interested in participating in Eagle Pride (marching band) in the fall of the 2019-2020 school year may register now. All are invited to be a part of this spirited, fun, entertaining, musical group! Students can sign up through this link .
Auditions for drumline will be held on February 20 and cologuard clinics will be held February 20 and 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the SCC.

Athletic Accomplishments:
Congratulations to the following teams:
  • Men's basketball: named #1 in the Division II AP poll
  • Wrestling: placing 2nd in the Eaton Invitational Tournament. Hunter Johns '19, Isaiah Wortham '20 and David Frederick '21 won their weight classes.
  • Bowling: the team placed 3rd in the GCL competition and Tian Turner '22 was named to the GCL 1st Team.
  • Swimming: women's head coach Kate Corrado Whistler ‘90 was named the GCL Coach of the Year.

The next men's volleyball open gym will be Sunday, Feb. 3 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the SCC. Students and parents are asked to download the Team App for men's volleyball for continuous updates including weather related cancellations. Students are also asked to make sure they are on Final Forms and have a physical on file in the Athletic Office by the beginning of the season, which is Monday, Mar. 4.

Online registration is now available for the CJ Fish Fry — Saturday, Mar. 23 from 6-11 p.m. If you would like to volunteer an item for the silent auction, or volunteer to set up, clean up, or help during the event, please contact  Marcia Northern.
There are no printed tickets for admission. Online pre-sale registration is $15 and is available on the  CJ website while admission at the door is $20. See you there!

Course Recommendation Sheets
2019-2020 School Year
Students received their course recommendation sheets during homeroom on Tuesday, Jan. 15., and were asked to share these with you so you and your child can discuss course selection for next year. One thing to consider is whether your child will participate in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. If you have questions about course selection, please contact your child's guidance counselor at (937) 461-3740 x243.

TechFest - PARENT OPPORTUNITY
Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 17 | Sinclair Community College
CJ students and parents are needed to volunteer for one hour or more at the 17th annual TechFest, February 16-17 at Sinclair Community College. The event runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17. Take this opportunity to bring your family to a huge local free STEM event, showcasing the amazing employers, universities, and professional and technical organizations involved in cutting-edge STEMM work in the Dayton area. ACT Boot Camp

CJ is partnering with Tutors Across America to offer an ACT weekend boot camp Friday, Feb. 22 - Sunday, Feb. 24 at CJ. It is a 20-hour boot camp and the cost is $149. Additional information can be found here .

Registration and Summer Courses
Registration packets for the 2019-2020 school year were mailed home on Wednesday, Jan. 23. These packets contain important information for the 2019-2020 school year. Please review this information as soon as possible and if you have questions about tuition and billing, please contact Katie Malloy. The packet includes information about summer courses, a timeline of important dates, steps to complete the online Emergency Medical Form, fee schedules, and much more. If you have questions about online registration, please contact Emily Saunders. The online Emergency Medical Form and registration fee of $200 is due by Thursday, Mar. 14.

Italy Summer Youth Pilgrimage
