This Sunday's Sermon...
Author Mark Scandrette wrote about a conversation with his friend, a tattoo artist, who was inking a client's back while they were discussing the state of the Church today. The man under the needle turned and interjected: "Jesus is cool, it's just that they have messed with Jesus. I mean, Christianity was at its best when it was secret and hidden and you could die for it." A bit crass, perhaps, but left Scandrette wondering, "Am I in some measure complicit in the domestication of Jesus?" In his time, Jesus was a disturber of assumptions and cultural norms. With the signature phrase, "You have heard that it was said..., but I tell you," he broke prevalent myths about what it meant to seek God. Jesus was a revolutionary. Are we?
Worshiping Together - Safely
Thank you to the volunteers and our COVID team who are keeping us all socially distanced, sanitized and masked during this unique time in our city, state, nation and world!
Please review the procedures here.

Please Note:

In the event of rain, our outdoor worship will be canceled.

If we must cancel, a "drive-through" blessing will be offered by Mark and other worship team members.  You will have plenty of time to get home and tune in to Virtual Worship at 10:30 AM.

Keeping You Informed...
The Vision 2030 Conversation Continues...
 What Comes Next, Broadway?

Did Broadway's Charter Members have a picture of what this tiny church on the west edge of Columbia would grow to be in 2020?  It is certain that the foundation they built in 1958 has shaped us today.  How will we, building on that firm foundation, shape Broadway in the years to come?
Broadway Vision team has been working via Zoom to begin to shape the conversation as we prepare for our next decade as a community of fiath.  The next step in the process is to hear from you.  The Vision Team has developed a list of questionsthat we are asked to consider.  Following your consideration, there will be two opportunities to join in a Zoom discussion with other Broadway members and the Vision Team:
  • Sunday, August 16 at 2 PM, or
  • Thursday, August 20, at 6:30 PM.

Please RSVP to Ingrid via email  or at 445.5312 to receive login information for the meeting. If you don't have access to a webcam, you can also phone in to join the conversation.

Check-Ins Re-Zoom on Monday!

Our Monday at Noon Zoom check-ins will return this Monday, August 10!  Pastor Mark will be available to listen, share and connect through the wonders of technology...just click on the image at right!
Run, Walk, Ride or Roll for Central America
Just as we are, the people of Central American are struggling with the COVID crisis.  But in countries that  were already struggling with poverty, food supplies and inadequate medical care - COVID in Central America has presented a new threat - massive and widespread hunger.
Since the beginning of the crisis, churches in Central American and the nited States have partnered to provide 2.5 million meals!  However, as the crisis continues, more food will be needed.  The Run for Central American on September 7 gives all of us wo can run, walk, ride or toll to raise funds to assist with hunger programs.  For those of us who don't  run, walk, ride or toll - we have the option to sponsor those who do!  For more information, contact David McGee or download a flyer here.
Opportunities to Engage in Discussions on Reconciliation and Racism
Our Disciples' national Reconciliation Ministry is offering a live Zoom event to discuss matters of race and culture.  These Zoom sessions begin tonight at 6 PM (CDT) and will be offered every two weeks through November.  Another opportunity to explore systemic racism is offered by the United Way.   The Equity Challenge is a self-directed online course that will help all of us to recognize issues of racial equity.  To sign up, click here.
