Sustainability and capacity building are popular terms circulating through nonprofit organizations these days—but what do these concepts really mean? Join the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance at our Second Annual Forum, featuring a lively discussion with three top experts in the field and opportunities to network with your regional nonprofit community.

Is it possible to secure funding for your agency’s longterm growth without sacrificing support for key programs? Will funders actually donate money to “keep the lights on” and cover staff salaries?

Topics at TVNPA’s second annual half-day conference include how to craft a framework to build organizational capacity and ways to create an associated plan to sustain your organization’s momentum and growth. Panelists will share resources and information designed both to challenge your assumptions and to equip you in building a case for your organization while growing its internal resources.
 
The event features three local experts in the field of nonprofit organization sustainability who will focus their sessions on what the landscape looks like to grow capacity and secure funding for infrastructure and long-range planning for the contemporary nonprofit.

About Our Presenters:

Jeanne Bell, MNA directs Nonprofit Quarterly Magazine’s Advancing Practice program to advance critical conversations about nonprofit management and leadership. She is the former CEO of CompassPoint, where she stewarded the strategic evolution of the organization to focus on emerging leaders and emergent leadership practice with an explicit orientation to social change.

Jeanne is the author of numerous articles on nonprofit leadership, strategy, and sustainability and is also the co-author of several books, including most recently, The Sustainability Mindset (Jossey-Bass, 2015). Jeanne's board leadership has included officer positions at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management and Intersection for the Arts. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Master of Nonprofit Administration program at the University of San Francisco's School of Management.

Kate Seely is the Director of Leadership, Culture and Community at Northern California Grantmakers (NCG). Kate directs NCG’s professional and leadership development work with a focus on organizational culture as a leverage point for impact. Prior to her work in philanthropy, Kate co-founded and chairs the board of Puente a la Salud Comunitaria in Oaxaca, Mexico, a nonprofit community development organization focused on public health, economic development and sustainable agriculture. She also serves on the nonprofit boards of Bar 717 Ranch summer camp and NewStories.

Kate holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability, with an expertise in the roles that leadership and organizational culture play in achieving both environmental and social sustainability.

Kate Wilkinson leads philanthropic and nonprofit strategy engagements for Open Impact and holds fifteen years of experience in philanthropy and social change. As a lead researcher for The Giving Code and co-author of The Giving Journey and New Normal reports, her most recent work has focused on the challenges and opportunities facing funders.

Kate’s background includes extensive work in philanthropy, including managing the start-up of a family foundation focused on arts and culture and leading partnerships and external outreach for the Skoll Global Threats Fund and the Clinton Global Initiative. Kate is a board member of Chikumbuso Women and Orphans project, a community-based organization in Ng’ombe, Zambia, whose mission is to bring light, laughter, and community to widows and their children in a slum outside Lusaka. Kate earned a BA from the University of Connecticut and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
