In the Bleak Midwinter
That's the title of a poem by Christina Rossetti, and these leaves made me think of the lines "frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone." However it's anything but bleak around here. I've re-organized my sewing room, unearthing a few treasures, and with the cold days it's a pleasure to stay indoors and scheme and sew. I'm sure you can agree that 2016 is a bright New Year, full of possibilities.

Catching Up
I have some news to share. First, I succumbed to another line of fabric, "Grunge" by Moda, for my website Store . You can get the kit of 23 chubby eighths (actually a bit bigger, at 10" x 21"), fat quarters, or yardage. I love the organic, painterly look of these fabrics, and the colors are irresistible.

Most of the fabrics in my quilt "Pop Beads" (newly named, below) are Grunge. This quilt has been accepted for the Summer issue of Modern Patchwork, a magazine I love. I plan to quilt it this weekend, and I'm thinking closely spaced, slightly wavy horizontal stitching . . . maybe.

"Solid + Plaid Modules," below, has been accepted into the modern quilt show QuiltCon in Pasadena CA next month. I'm going with my good buddy Kari, and we're SO excited. It will be interesting to see what The Modern Quilt Guild has chosen for the show. And, of course, Kari and I are hoping to "make friends" with the vendors and fabrics.
More news: the February issue of American Patchwork & Quilting (another magazine I love) has my "Swizzle Sticks" quilt as one of its projects. There are lots of great quilts in this issue; check it out at allpeoplequilt.com.

For those of you in Northern CA, I'm teaching "Swizzle Sticks" at Sugar Pine Quilt Shop in Grass Valley on January 30. Email me for info. (You'll need to purchase the magazine.) This simple design works with lots of different fabrics; see "Brushed Metal" in my website Gallery.

Here's the cover of the February issue of APQ. (By the way, the two ombrés shown in Marcia Harmening's cover quilt are Gelato 301 and 903, which are in my Finally, on January 22 we'll announce the details of our third Artistic Alchemy retreat at Zephyr Point. I'm planning to teach a new workshop, "It's All Abou t Color," and I'm super excited to be doing something different. Sign up for our blog to get all the info. Below is a traditional block, "Rolling Stone," in modern fabrics. (And yes, that's my fave Kim Schaefer fabric in the center.)

That's all for now. Here's to a New Year of fabric abundance and fun with color!
