February Newsletter
This Family Day weekend, we wish you a fun and safe holiday spent with the ones you love! Because of supporters like you, more local families are able to enjoy this weekend together in the comfort of their own homes.

Our two Habitat ReStores will be closed on Monday, February 18th so our employees and volunteers can spend time with their families.
What you helped us accomplish in 2018:
build updates
Did you know this is the first year in our (almost) 15 year history that we have continued to work on our build projects over the winter? We are making great progress in both Campbell River and Courtenay, however, with so many people taking winter vacations and not aware that we are still working, the volunteer numbers are quite low some days. Visit our website to learn more about how you can help and schedule yourself for a shift.

Over the coming weeks, we will be installing rigid foam and vinyl siding on the outside, and trades will complete plumbing, mechanical, and electrical on the inside.
Lots of opportunities for helping and learning!

- The second duplex is at the drywall phase with interior painting to follow. Helping hands make all the difference!
- The third duplex (pictured) is being completed by members of CFB 19 Wing Comox, and they are currently working on exterior cladding. Learn more about this partnership.
community supporters
Christoph Real Estate Group and Robbins & Company, CPAs partnered to invest $5,000 in a matching donation campaign for Habitat. We are so grateful to everyone who  donated and made this initiative a success . Your donations will go directly to our build projects in Campbell River and Courtenay.

The $12,500 grant we received will go towards acquiring a new 'Builder Truck'. This funding came in the nick of time - the '79 Dodge we were using was up to 879,000 kilometres and just died last month!

other news
Thanks to feedback from supporters like you, we made some changes to our online 50/50 raffle. The pot is larger than ever before and you could win big by supporting Habitat!

Did you know that both of our ReStores have scrap metal recycling programs? We've partnered with ABC Recycling in Campbell River to be even more effective in diverting metal from the landfill.

volunteer role spotlight
We equate the receiving area to the heart of the ReStore. The volunteers who work this area know what treasures come in, what goes out, how to test products, and how to price items for quick sale. It's a wonderful place for volunteers of all abilities as there are a myriad of ways to help AND our staff is super supportive. Every day is an adventure in the receiving department because you never know what will come in. (For example, this incredible winged unicorn!)
