Shine Your Light on Suicide Prevention Update

Please shine your light on suicide prevention and help prevent suicide. Grande Prairie Suicide Prevention Resource Centre created an upbeat music video with local volunteers to "This Little Light of Mine" in order to raise awareness and increase funding for our programming. We know that when suicidal behaviours are detected early, lives can be saved.  A small gift of $10 per month-or a one-time donation--will, for example, help a youth from this area attend a retreat or workshop, or help us take presentations (How to Help a Friend or Tough Enough to Talk about It) to schools or workplaces. SPRC is a registered charity and can provide tax deductible receipts.

With every reported suicide there is between 5% - 25% unreported suicides.
People with suicidal behaviours are 40 - 100 times greater than the number of suicides. Using just 5% of the 2017 population which was 4, 286000, the amount of Albertans having suicidal thoughts is around 214,300 people.

ATB BoostR Crowdfunding challenge aims to Build Her Business.

On November 19, 2018, in celebration of Women's Entrepreneurship Day, ATB announced the Build Her Business competition, a unique crowdfunding campaign designed to encourage more women to use crowdfunding as a way to start and grow their business.

On February 1, 2019, 22 women from across Alberta launched their crowdfunding campaigns on  ATB's crowdfunding platform, ATB BoostR . The competition runs from February 1- 28, 2019 and the winner will be announced on March 8, 2019,  International Women's Day.

The key to success in rewards-based crowdfunding is through consumers investing small amounts of money into businesses and ideas in return for a reward. The size of the reward is a reflection of the amount contributed. If campaigns don't meet their funding goal, there is no exchange of money or rewards.

While all businesses that meet their funding goal will receive the funds pledged by the crowd, an exciting component of the Build Her Business program is the judging portion for the best overall campaign. The winning campaign will determined by some of today's biggest names in business, including Manjit Minhas, Entrepreneur and Dragon on CBC's Dragon's Den, Angela Brown, CEO of Moneris, Marcela Mandeville, CEO Alberta Women Entrepreneurs and ATB's Vice President of Strategic Business Solutions, Ed Straw.

In addition to the funds raised by the crowd, the overall winner will receive:
- Personal mentorship session with Manjit Minhas
- $5,000 MasterCard from Moneris and ATB
- A 3-month coaching program with Anita Kemp, of 'The Purposeful Entrepreneur" valued at $1,500 ( https://www.coachbydesign.com/ )

There are two women-led companies from Grande Prairie in the campaign:

Awaken Your Glow Events - lifestyle + wellness retreats,
currently at 57% of their goal

Amos Smith Clothing - currently at 55% of their goal

As well, the women have been mentored by BoostR Alumni, Tracy Persson who has been named the keynote speaker for the annual Women of Influence Awards in Grande Prairie this March.
