Construction Updates
Dear Fairview Families:

We have several important construction updates to share with you. The project is progressing successfully and we thank you for your patience as we started this school year. Our staff has done an excellent job making the most of our space and resources.

We are ready to schedule our transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 at Mayer Middle School and Fairview High School. We will be adding a "transition day" to our school calendar to coordinate the movement of staff throughout the buildings .

**IMPORTANT!** Middle and high school students will not report to school on Friday, November 16 so that staff can transition to their Phase 2 locations. The EEC and Gilles-Sweet will be open and operate as normal.

We accounted for "moving days" when creating the 2018-19 school calendar, and have satisfied the number of hours required by the state so make up days related to construction will not be necessary.

Also as a reminder, Parent-Teacher Conferences will go on as scheduled for students K-12 on Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20. Students do not report to school on those days. Students and staff will then enjoy a Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 21 through Friday, November 23.

At the middle and high schools, the the new Phase 1 locations will be available for parents and community members to tour during the scheduled conferences time. This includes the choir and band rooms, middle school gymnasium, classrooms and hallways on the first and second floors in the southwest corner of the campus, the high school main office, and guidance offices.

As for the Gilles-Sweet parking lot expansion, work will begin on Monday, October 1. The northwest corner of the parking lot will be where construction equipment is stored, and the west row of parking spaces may be inaccessible at times. See attached graphic. The goal is for the parking lot expansion to be completed by Thanksgiving. Please plan accordingly when visiting the school for activities as parking will be very limited. Please remember that parking is not permitted in the Sauced pizza or Convenient plaza on 220 and Lorain.

We appreciate your patience as we are continually working to improve our school buildings and environments to be the best they can be.

Sincerely,
Fairview Park City Schools
Air handlers were placed on the roof of the high school via crane on Saturday, September 29, 2018.

November 2018 Renewal Levy
Voters in Fairview Park will see Issue 5, an operating renewal levy, on the ballot for the Fairview Park City School District this November. It is a renewal of a levy first passed in 2003. Voters renewed the same levy in 2008 and in 2012. Renewal of this levy is critical to extend the current operating budget to 2020. Here are some additional key points:
  • Issue 5 is an operating renewal levy -- no new taxes.
  • Issue 5 will continue the current funding that has been in place for years -- $2.69 million annually for our schools.
  • The ballot language will read that it is an "emergency levy." An Emergency levy is property tax that serves as a limited operating levy proposed for a specific dollar amount. Emergency levies may by be renewed for the dollar amount originally requested.
  • This renewal will maintain the excellence that has been established over the years and keep the district financially stable.
