Sullivan Scoop

November 16, 2018
Hello, Sullivan Families,

It is hard to believe that today marks the end of the first trimester! Our parent-teacher conferences were well attended over the past two Thursday evenings. We enjoyed connecting with families and having meaningful conversations about our students' growth as learners, citizens, and individuals.

Today we held our first trimester celebration for PBIS. We celebrated meeting expectations in many areas of the school, and we set goals for the second trimester. Mrs. Pennell's and Mrs. Ganek's classes earned front row seats for having 100% and 95% participation in Pajama Spirit Day!

As we look forward to a long week off to celebrate Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my gratitude for the Sullivan community. I am grateful for our hardworking and dedicated staff who come to school each day ready to connect with and inspire our students. I am grateful for our families and our parent volunteers whose involvement in our school enriches the educational experience for our kids. I am grateful for our connections with the wider community that give our students a perspective that is larger than themselves. Finally, I am grateful for our students. They make me smile each day with their kindness, their energy, and their creativity. Sullivan is truly a great place to learn and grow!

I hope you have an enjoyable week off, and have a Happy Thanksgiving. We look forward to welcoming our students back on November 26th.

Warmly,

Traci Meziere

District and School Report Cards
The Illinois School Report cards were released on October 31st. The new report cards include several new measures of progress and growth to calculate school ratings. Please take a minute to read the letter from the principals that explain the new ratings, and take some time to review our report card PDF using the links below. You can also look up our school and explore a more interactive version of the report card here . We are proud of our students and staff district-wide for our strong student growth and our focus on the whole child!
Sullivan Ambassadors
Sullivan School will be raising money to build a school in Haiti as part of our service learning. One of the projects we will be doing is making bookmarks out of duct tape during the month of January. We are looking for donations of patterned or colored duct tape. Please send any donations to school with your child anytime before winter break. Thank you for your support!

We were honored to host veterans on November 7th at Sullivan to celebrate Veteran's Day. We recognized our vets for their service with a song at the end of the presentations. Thank you to our Ambassadors and their advisors, Mrs. Paeth, Mrs. Broms, Mrs. Yager, and Mrs. Espinos, for organizing this great event.
Winter fun with our friends at Aspired Assisted Living

Mrs. Brusso's 4th grade class met with our friends from Aspired and made snowman ornaments with the residents' pictures.

We are looking forward to their December visit with Mrs. Ubert's class for holiday activities.
First Lego League teams lead the pledge at the Board of Education Meeting
