Mission Statement
The core purpose of the Forest City Middle School is to build positive relationships with students in a safe environment where students are held to high expectations through a challenging and engaging curriculum.
Happy November!

It is hard to believe but we are finishing up the 1st trimester and headed into the winter months. Our students have done a great job during the first one third of the school year. While there are so many things to introduce, discuss, study and learn about during the school year we have most recently started working with all students and staff on Franklin Covey’s, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”

This month we are focusing on Habit #1, Be Proactive. Keys to being proactive include:
  • Taking a pause before you respond…(we always have a choice in how we respond)
  • Using proactive language…(positive self talk, I can...I will…)
  • Focusing on your Circle of Influence…(Things in my control, things not in my control)

During the course of this school year we will be sharing additional information that we cover with students and staff around these seven habits. All seven habits are great reminders for all of us to keep working on ways to grow and improve ourselves and also improve our interactions with others.

All school staff can be reached via telephone (585-4772) or email; email address is first initial, last name @ forestcity.k12.ia.us , i.e. zdillavou@forestcity.k12.ia.us .

Best Wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday.

8th Grade Life Skills
The 8th grade Life Skills students held their 2nd annual “Fall Festival” on Nov. 8. This helps them see how a basic business model, INCOME-EXPENSES=PROFIT, works. They all completed a Business Plan in class, but were also part of the planning process, signing up to lead a committee, holding meetings, marketing & preparing our sale items and working at the sale.

They prepared & sold brownies, scotcheroos, popcorn w/M&M’s, and Oreo shakes. They set everything up themselves and worked as cashiers. This year again, several individuals brought their own products or services to sell, making it even more fun!

Students constructed a long list of potential places to donate the proceeds from their sale. The destination receiving the most votes was the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, who will be receiving $247.45 from the Forest City Community School’s 8th grade.

Way to go 8th grade students!
High Five Friday
On November 2, as part of Waldorf University’s Homecoming we had 13 student/athletes from Waldorf visit our Middle School students that morning and greet them as they entered school with high fives.

It was a very positive, welcoming morning for our students. Special thanks to these Waldorf University students for thinking of us and spending time with our middle school students!

If you are using the Campus Portal app, you will be prompted to upgrade to their new version.

It's the same information, but is organized differently. This version for parents aligns with what your children are used to seeing.

If you are not using the Campus Portal app (view/add lunch balance, see schedule(s), gradebook updates for MS/HS), download it from your app store today!

There are two app icons, a parent and student version. Download this icon to the right, the parent version.
