Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame Inducts Nine New Members into the Class of 2018!
Nearly 325 people were present as the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame (IHHF) recently inducted its 14th class of inductees into its Hall of Fame. The honored inductees who were inducted on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Belvedere Banquet Hall in Elk Grove were (pictured above from left)  Joe Corvo, Kevin Bolger, Jack Raslawski, Mary Ann Robinson, Karen Hyde, John Cerza, Derrick Stasica (for deceased Terry Stasica) and  Brett Lebda.

Illinois hockey has a very long and rich hockey history, due in large part, to the foundation laid down by these inductees. Their tireless dedication in making sure every individual who had a desire to participate in this great sport has had the opportunity to do so. READ MORE>>

Broad Range of Discussions Highlight USA Hockey Winter Meeting
USA Hockey's annual Winter Meeting concluded last Sunday (Jan. 20) with safety, growth, player development, diversity & inclusion, and technology among the focal points of the four-day gathering of volunteer leaders from across the country representing all areas of the organization.  "We had terrific conversations on a broad range of topics related to continuing to move our sport forward," said Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey. "We're focused on being as welcoming as we can to all that would like to be a part of our game and providing the best possible environment for everyone involved." READ MORE>>

AHAI recognizes that Illinois Hockey is comprised not only of incredible players, but also of great High School, Youth, Girls and Disabled Hockey Coaches that guide our teams both on and off the ice. Candidates for AHAI's Boys and Girls High School, Youth, Girls and Disabled Hockey Coach of the Year Awards should embody good sportsmanship and respect toward teams, parents and officials while providing a positive experience for their players. Tickets On Sale Now for the 2019 High School State Championships at the United Center!
AHAI, along with the Chicago Blackhawks, announce the 2019 Illinois State High School Hockey Championships, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers, will be played at the United Center on Friday, March 22, 2019.
The Boys Red Varsity State Championship tilt, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be broadcast in high-definition on NBC Sports Chicago and streamed live on NBCSportsChicago.com. The event will feature a full day of action with the Illinois Girls State Championship at 4:30 p.m., the Boys Combined Varsity State Championship at 9:15 p.m. COMPLETE DETAILS>

QUESTION: A coach indicated that his helmets did not have the fabric strap that goes under the chin. They just had straps that attached from the cage to the side of the helmet and seat the cup to the chin. Just curious if I should give a warning for lack of chin strap or not. ANSWER>>
QUESTION:  If the ref calls a penalty shot during a breakaway for a "fouled from behind" foul but the attacking player gets up and the goalie throws his stick toward the puck as the attacking player chases the puck into the corner, can you award 2 penalty shots or is it just one. ANSWER>>
IHHF BIO SERIES: JACK RASLAWSKI - OFFICIALS' CATEGORY
Mr. and Mrs. Raslawski had their two sons out there skating early when they lived in Chicago. Jon and Jack skated at the outdoor rinks in the parks and at the old Michael Kirby rink. When Jack was in second grade, the Raslawski family moved to Park Ridge. The boys were signed up in the Legendary Park Ridge Hornets program and one of their first coaches was Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Member Harry Sator (2008). Jack played all of his amateur hockey with the Hornets and made the Maine South High School team coached by a very passionate and emotional young guy who grew up to be Jim Smith. READ MORE>>

Watch Out, West Division - Here Comes Naperville North
By Ross Forman - Naperville North is on a roll, at the right time.  The Huskies stepped on the ice Sunday, Jan. 27, for the Crosstown Showdown against archrival Naperville Central, with wins in 5 of their past 6 league games, including victories over such perennial powers as Glenbard and Waubonsie.  The Huskies are 9-12-0-4 in the IHSHL West Division. 30th Annual AHAI All-State Games Set for February 11th
The 30th Annual AHAI All-State Games will be  played on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Edge Ice Arena. The Girls game will start at 6:40 p.m. and the Boys game will begin at 8:35 p.m.  Admission to the High School Hockey All-State Games is  FREE . All-State players will be selected by the High School Varsity head coaches throughout the State of Illinois; rosters will be announced soon. Can't make the game? Eddie Olczyk Youth Hockey Award
The Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Blackhawk Foundation are proud to present an award named after U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie Olczyk to support young hockey players and teams in Illinois who may not have the means to play at a competitive level. Since its inception in 2011, the Eddie Olczyk Award has distributed more than $450,000 in grants to 212 individuals and eight organizations. As the head instructor at the Blackhawks Hockey Camps, Olczyk is dedicated to the development and growth of youth hockey in Illinois. 2019 Hobey Baker Memorial Award Nominees Include 7 Illinois Players!
AHAI is proud to share that Lukas Craggs, Brennan Kapcheck, Tanner Laczynski, Stefanos Lekkas, Hugh McGing, Peter Tischke and Bobby Nardella are part of the distinguished list of nominees for the 2019 Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Abbey Murphy Following the Path of Fellow Chicagoan Kendall Coyne Schofield

Girls United Continues to Grow in Popularity and Success
By Greg Bates, Special to AHAI - Tracy Cimba had been keeping an eye on the number of players registering for the new Girls United Rec Level (GURL) Hockey, aka Girls United Hockey, program based in the suburbs of Chicago.  The first week in January the total girls who had signed up was 35 for two locations. But within one week, that number spiked to 75. "The success has exceeded our expectations," Cimba said. "I think obviously sometimes you go into things with lower expectations and hope for the best.
