TABC Pink Day Raises Critical Funds
Pink Day is back!! TABC was a sea of pink, as the school raised money for, and awareness of, breast cancer. The day began with Shacharit and was followed by Head of School Rabbi Asher Yablok introducing Pink Day and describing the pride the TABC family feels knowing that Pink Day was started right here at TABC, and has become an international day with tremendous impact.  Keynote speaker, TABC's Nurse Linda Moed Cohen, told of her own experience going through breast cancer and specified how it took more than doctors to get her through that challenging time, listing family and close friends who were there for her. Linda focused on a few important pieces such as early detection, and how to support someone going through cancer, especially if they aren't emotionally able to speak about it. She wanted the students to also be aware that although breast cancer is thought of as a women's disease, men can get it as well. She encouraged the students to take care of themselves and get regular physicals and medical care. Next TABC's Public Relations & Development Assistant, Aliza Fischman, spoke about Do Wonders, a local organization which will be receiving part of the day's proceeds. She described how Do Wonders donates wigs to women of all ages who are undergoing chemotherapy and can't afford a wig on their own. She described how the charity started with one spark of inspiration and has since donated hundreds of wigs to cancer patients in need, from young children to the elderly. Aliza went on to describe the difference in self-esteem that having a good wig can make for someone who has just lost her hair to the ravages of cancer.

Everyone in the room then received a sheet with one or more mishnayot from Seder Nashim. By learning together, TABC was able to make a siyum to add powerful tefillot and learning to all of the important fundraising activities. Senior Avraham Gellman made the siyum in honor of a refuah shleima for Riva Miriam bat Rachel Leah Sarah.

After the annual Pink Day picture and pink doughnuts, the entire yeshiva went to shiurim on topics related to health and halacha. Thank you to seniors Elli Spinowitz & Noah Miller, juniors Sam Weinberg, Josh Miller, Menachem Kravetz & Daniel Jaffe, sophomores Daniel Dresdner, Yair Levie, Eitan Mermelstein, Ashi Norman, & Gavi Isaacs, and freshmen Yehuda From, Elisha Markovitz, Aiden Samet & Nachi Schneier for all of their efforts, which resulted in raising $7,500! Thank you to Ms. Donna Hoenig for her continued leadership of Pink Day. Ms. Hoenig was part of the original Pink Day and has been a mentor to every leadership team ever since. TABC Student Named as Finalist
in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program
Torah Academy of Bergen Country is proud to announce that Akiva Sturm '19 has been named as a finalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Of the over 1.6 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test only about 15,000 Finalists throughout the nation have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise. All winners of Merit Scholarship® awards (Merit Scholar® designees) are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments-without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference. A variety of information is available for NMSC selectors to evaluate: the Finalist's academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay.
BioMedical Update
This week, STEM students got their hands wet yet again with their first ever live dissection! Students carefully placed their earthworm in ethanol to enable them to lose consciousness. Afterwards, they were able to open them up and observe all the tiny and intricate parts. As the dissection was so small, students' skills were truly put to the test in how far they have come since the beginning of the year. In addition, students continued to recall and observe important similarities and differences between the organisms since the beginning of the year. Their next dissection now awaits!
TABC Alumni Educate Our Students
Students in the Introduction to Economics and Financial Literacy classes were able to "brainstorm," ask questions, and gain some fresh insight into the world of finance and investments from two TABC alumni recently.
Last week, Joshua Cohen '07, returned for an "encore" presentation on more sophisticated stock market investment vehicles, such as short selling and trading options. As always, Josh interacted well with the students. Many lingered in the hallways with him after the class with more questions, and exchanged contact information in order to continue their discussions. Mrs. Reichardt is very grateful to her friend and former student, Josh, for giving so generously of his time to her students.
This week, Shimshon Klyman '18, visited with the classes to discuss his own investments, which began with his stock market project in this course last year. Mrs. Reichardt hope that this year's students will learn much from their stock market projects, and continue their "investing" beyond this year.
STORM Report
Storm Playoff Preview

After a couple of tough losses right before winter break the TABC Storm varsity basketball the team came out after the break with two big wins to sneak into the second seed of the Western division, giving them a first round bye. Their defense, which has been their hallmark all year, led them to these big victories over SAR and MTA.  Although at times the offense struggled, the Storm were able to capitalize when they needed to with different members stepping up and hitting big shots. With the defense leading way, the Storm aim to bring home their first ever varsity basketball championship.

In other news, the Storm JV basketball team finished with the three seed. Even after a long break, there was no rust to be found after a convincing victory over Ramaz, who they will play in their first round match up at home.  In preparation for their playoff journey the Storm will be traveling to Montreal to compete in the Oren Grunbaum tournament, where they will compete against many Canadian teams. The Storm have high hopes to repeat as JV champions.

The Varsity hockey team finished the regular season as the 2 seed giving them a first round bye. The Storm have been led by their great goal-tending, ferocious defense and balanced offense. The Storm hope to capitalize on the success they exhibited on Senior night where they saw everything click as they defeated Kushner in a convincing home win. The Storm will face a challenging schedule as they hope to find themselves in Lawrence Middle School March 3rd, as they face off with a potential match-up with DRS in the Semis. Still the Storm have the confidence and talent to capture the championship.

The JV hockey team saved their best game for when it mattered most. A huge win against Kushner gave the Storm the 1 seed and home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Their most complete game of the season saw all the different pieces come together. They had fantastic goal-tending; great defense and incredible offense to give them the big 4-1 win over Kushner. The Storm hopes to bolster this win to a successful playoff run, repeating as JV champions!
