Here's what's new on the Rock County 4-H website this month!
Fruit & More Sales

Rock County 4-H will be selling fruit, frozen food, and puffins again this year. Make sure to get out there and sell fruit! Selling dates are January 14-February 3.

Apply now to be a 2019 4-H camp counselor

SW MN 4-H Camp Counselor applications are now open for youth in grades 9 and older. Check it out for more information about camp, training and application information!   Camp counselors learn important leadership skills like persistence and teamwork. Camp counselors support younger youth in their learning and help them have an affirming and fun experience. Counselors work with staff to create and lead camp activities.


Communication Contest

The Rock County 4-H Communication Contest is Thursday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room. This is open to all 4-Her's- including Cloverbuds! Click read more for full details.


New Vision Co-op swine and beef programs

Rock County 4-H is pairing with New Vision Co-op to provide an opportunity for our 4-H'ers to show swine and beef at the county fair this year! If this is something that you might be interested in or would like to learn more about call the Extension office at 507-283-1302 or email [email protected]. The deadline to submit an application and payment to the office is Thursday, February 14, 2019.

New Rock County events calendar-check it out!

Rock County 4-H has a new Events Calendar! This Google Calendar contains upcoming meetings, events, club meetings and much more. This will be a great way for everyone to keep up on the events happening in Rock County 4-H.

4-H Livestock info night for everyone!

This meeting is for everyone who is going to exhibit livestock at the county fair. We will go over rules, questions, our consequence chart, ear tags, and more. It is on Thursday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room.

Seniors-Apply for Reisch scholarship!

Attention seniors, Don't forget to apply for the Reisch 4-H Scholarship. The deadline to apply is: Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. You need to have everything brought to the Extension Office. Please look at the application on our Rock County 4-H website: https://www3.extension.umn.edu/local/rock/4-h/downloads/page/1 Click on: 2019 Scholarship Application Form and 2019 Scholarship Involvement Form. All of the details should be on these forms. If there are any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!

Congrats to Rock's Robotics!

Congratulations to the Rock's Robotics team for qualifying for state! Team members include: Quentin J, Garret C, Zoe P, Zoey B, Shelby M, Alex R and Brenna R with Randy B and Aaron P as coaches! Way to go! The championship will be on Saturday, February 2 at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.

More 4-H news this month
Rock County 4-H is excited to offer a Counted Cross Stitch Class to all youth in 3rd grade and up. Stacy Mente, one of our talented volunteers, is holding this class once a month to help get youth interested in the needle arts project. The kids will get to complete their own project to bring to the fair! The first session will be on Saturday, February 9 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room.
 
Attention Cloverbuds ages K-2nd grades! Join us for our February Cloverbud meeting on Tuesday, February 19th at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room. We need at least 5 youth to sign up so please spread the word so that we can make this event happen!

The next Ambie Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Extension Office Meeting Room following the Cloverbud Meeting. Please start thinking of ideas of themes for the summer day camps!

Minnesota 4-H state director Jennifer Skuza encourages us to discover and pursue what makes us flow.
 
4-H SS&W Leader Certification Trainings will be held April 6-7 in Isanti County and April 27-28 in Jordan. These trainings are designed for adults and youth that lead or would like to lead training in shooting sports, wildlife, or ATV safety. Deadlines for registering for the trainings are March 22 and April 12. Disciplines fill quickly, so make sure registration forms are sent in early!
 
Review and communicate winter weather cancellation plans of 4-H programs, activities and outings to help ensure the safety of 4-H members and families during the winter months.
 
The 2019 Engineering Design Challenge task and handbook will soon be posted on the Engineering Design Challenge website. While you're waiting, get your team going by working on activities in the Engineering Design Challenge learning guide.
 
The scholarship application is due by Monday, March 4
 
Dairy, general livestock, and horse enthusiasts - mark your calendar! The eighth annual Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held Saturday, February 16, at the Wabasso Public School. This is a day-long 4-H event that consists of project bowl competition, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and project workshops led by industry-leading professionals.

Plan to attend a 4-H Agronomy Day to be held at Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN on March 9, 2019.

Do you want help getting started on a fair project related to Agronomy? Sign up for a 4-H Agronomy Kit between January 1 to February 15, 2019!
 
Plan to join fellow 4-H adult volunteers to network and gain new ideas for helping youth learn through projects. One of our overarching 4-H program goals is that "Youth will learn by developing a passion in their area of interest". To support this goal, we need volunteers to share their interests and lead project learning opportunities to help youth identify and pursue areas of interest. It will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at SMSU in Marshall.
