Join MMTC at our 10th Annual Broadband and Social Justice Summit (#BBSJ19) on March 6th at the Arnold & Porter Conference Center in Washington, D.C. The #BBSJ19 Summit features a series of Fireside Chats with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioners Brendan Carr, Michael O'Rielly, Jessica Rosenworcel, and newly-confirmed Commissioner Geoffrey Starks. 


During the breakfast, the commissioners will discuss the state of broadband, privacy, telehealth, media ownership, spectrum auctions, infrastructure (5G,10G, small cells deployment, and the digital divide), the fate of the Lifeline program for low-income telecommunications access, the homework gap, net neutrality, and more.

FCC's Advisory Committee on Diversity & Digital Empowerment Convenes Media Symposium on March 7th
The FCC's Advisory Committee on Diversity & Digital Empowerment is hosting a one-day symposium on March 7th from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that will examine a range of issues pertaining to best practices for minorities and women in broadcasting and related industry sectors. The symposium will be held at the FCC Headquarters, 445 12th Street, SW, Commission Meeting Room (TW-C305) in Washington, D.C. 

The day-long event will feature panel discussions with female and minority media industry pioneers, well-known broadcast experts, leaders of large multi-media firms, and financial experts. During the symposium, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the s uccess stories of small, women-owned and minority-owned media businesses and explore new entrepreneurial opportunities for such businesses. They will also have access to networking opportunities with panelists, moderators, and FCC Staff.

2018 Black Women in Tech to Follow on Twitter List Features MMTC President and CEO Maurita Coley Flippin and MMTC Alumna

MMTC President and CEO Maurita Coley Flippin was selected as one of the 2018 Black Women in Tech to Follow on Twitter. The list also includes former MMTC staff, fellows, Capital Pitch winners, and conference speakers such as Dr. Nicole Turner Lee of the Brookings Institution, Joycelyn James of the D.C. Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development,  Dr. Charlene Brown of ReciproCare, DeShuna Spencer of kweliTV, Jotaka Eaddy of LendUp, and Melissa Bradley, Sibyl Edwards, Xina Eiland, and Erin Horne McKinney of Black Female Founders.  The list was curated by MMTC Board member Jeneba Jalloh Ghatt, an attorney, author, and digital strategist.

MMTC Board Vice Chair Erwin Krasnow Featured in Broadcast Education Association's Thought Leadership Series

Broadcast Education Association recently featured MMTC Board Vice  Chair and Mentoring Committee Chair Erwin  Krasnow, a partner at Garvey Schubert Barer, in its Thought Leadership Series that introduces faculty and students to influential and/or historical figures in the media industry.  During the video interview Krasnow discusses his education, background, communications law career, efforts to promote diversity, and current issues involving telecommunication policy. Legal Times described him as "a dean of the Washington communications bar."
