DPI Grants Available

AODA Grants Due April 19
The Student Services Prevention and Wellness Team has just released the AODA 2019-2021 grant announcement. Eligible applicants are WI Public Schools Districts. A grant writer's Webinar   and PowerPoint slides are available on the DPI's webpage.

School-based Mental Health Services Grants Due May 1
The Department of Public Instruction will award grants to school districts, and operators of independent charter schools, to be used for the purpose of providing mental health services to pupils, in collaboration with community health agencies. Strategies may include co-locating community mental health clinics in schools and providing screening and intervention services. School boards and independent charter schools may apply for a grant individually or as a consortium of school boards, charter schools, or both; also, Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) can be considered a consortium of school boards. Summer SEL Symposium

On June 19-20 DPI will host the second annual Social and Emotional Learning Symposium. As we plan this event, we want to make sure that the sessions offered reflect the needs of educators and out of school time programs.

Also, this year's Summer Institute will include a shared event with the 4 th Annual Growing School Mental Health Summit.  This event is co-sponsored by the Coalition for Expanding School-Based Mental Health in Wisconsin and the Department of Public Instruction. This conference will occur on June 18 that the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Stevens Point. See more information below.
New SEL Report from the Aspen Institute

On January 15, 2019, the Aspen Institute
released the Commission's final report and accompanying recommendations on how schools can fully integrate social, emotional, and academic development to support the whole student.
Drawing on input from more than 200 scientists, youth and parent groups, educators, and policymakers, the Commission's final report, " From a Nation at Risk to a Nation at Hope ," seeks to accelerate and strengthen efforts to support the whole learner in local communities through recommendations for researchers, educators, and policymakers. Safe Schools, Safe Communities: State Conference on LGBTQ+ Youth

G SAFE and Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change (JM4C) are pleased to present  Safe Schools, Safe Communities: State Conference on LGBTQ+ Youth  (SSSC19)  on Friday, March 8, 2019. This year's conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Parker High School in Janesville. 
The target audience for SSSC19 includes adults who work with youth and their families as well as youth delegates from middle school and high school-age groups or clubs in schools or in the community.  School and community-based youth groups and clubs are invited to designate and register up to two youth delegates to attend SSSC19.  

SSSC19 will feature speakers and workshops facilitated by local and regional experts. 
Conference participants will gain critical skills, tools, knowledge, and connections to help lead and support efforts to create more inclusive environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, nonbinary, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth across Wisconsin.  Please visit  www.gsafewi.org  to learn more.

Remember to register for the Youth Risk Behavior Survey! Schools that are interested in taking the YRBS are reminded that the time to register and take the survey is now!  The survey window closes on March 29 and will not open again until January 2021. This is a change from prior years. More information is available on the Conducting A YRBS webpage.
