The Board Meeting on February 12 formulated a motion to direct the Search Committee to seek a candidate with a proven track record of collaboration to fit the Lead/Collaborative model.

 

The meeting began with prayer and the same handout from the Sunday Round Table. Discussion was restricted to the 29 Board members then opened to the 50+ members at large in attendance. Some 20 persons spoke to the merits of various proposals.

 

Aaron Sapp moved to direct the Search Committee to seek a candidate with a proven track record of collaboration; Eric Lybeck-Brown offered the second to open discussion. Leslie Clay moved to amend the motion by adding to seek a candidate to fit the Lead/Collaborative model to the directive; amendment was seconded by Linda Poehlmann. Both amendment and amended motion passed without dissenting votes. Steve Westgate closed the meeting with prayer.

 

So the result is that the Settled Minister Search Committee will be able to describe the position as searching for a proven Lead Collaborative Minister. Given general consensus for this style of ministry, our Bylaws Committee (Sara Miller, Brent Ghan and Steve Westgate) are reviewing the Bylaws for potential changes in the ministerial responsibility with intent to submit to the February 26th Board Meeting. If the Board is in favor, the plan was to take Bylaw revisions to the March 10th congregational meeting when we vote on the slate of officers. However, revisions to the bylaws require a 30 day notice to the congregation so revisions will need to be voted on at a later time. Meanwhile, the Settled Minister Search Committee has considerable lead work to do and now has direction on writing a Position Description.
