FACT
: Last year YCS served 118 homeless and 68 foster students. Data shows these students are more at risk to drop out. Often these students are not engaged in conversations about the value of attendance, graduation and continued education to start a career. There is a perception that the cost of education beyond high school is too high.
ACTION
: When talking with families, encourage them to talk with a school counselor and sign up for Free and Reduced Lunch. This qualifies them for meals, but it also provides access to college tuition waivers.
As a Graduate Yelm! Network, we can help remove financial barriers and improve access to all education and training after high school.
