Myeloma Canada Holds the First-ever InfoSession for Healthcare Professionals in Whitehorse

Myeloma Canada was out in full force in Whitehorse on October 18 and 19. Our co-founder Aldo Del Col attended the last of the national pharmacare consultation sessions, representing the myeloma community. Roundtable discussions addressed several topics: challenges in accessing medications, how national pharmacare should be structured, who should be covered, which drugs should be covered and how the program will be funded. Aldo re-iterated Myeloma Canada’s position that an enlightened approach be taken, in which pharmacare would transform our currently inequitable patchwork of drug coverage to ensure that all Canadians have access to the prescription drugs they need.

Aldo was joined by Dr Kevin Song, hematologist with BC Cancer and Cindy Manchulenko, Clinical Trials Nurse from Vancouver as well as Gabriele Colasurdo, Manager of Education and Patient Services for two educational events. The event was held at the Whitehorse General Hospital and was geared to healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses and pharmacists. This was the first time that Myeloma Canada organized a Medical InfoSession specifically for healthcare professionals. The capacity audience and lively discussions suggested that there is an unmet need for this type of educational activity. More such events will be planned for 2019.

Myeloma Canada also welcomed local myeloma patients and their caregivers for series of presentations on the management of myeloma, followed by a Q & A period. Given the success of the Whitehorse events, similar sessions are already being planned for Yellowknife, NWT early next year.

The 3rd Annual Sam's Monte Carlo Casino Night raised $48,500 !

We got a record number of leaders in attendance to the Support Group Leader Summit, from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, and everywhere in between.
