Wow! What a difficult, yet, amazing weekend we had for our Royalty program.
Our 19 Candidates were interviewed by five judges from the community who had the difficult and time consuming task of helping choose our 2019 Royal Court. Every Candidate did a wonderful job representing herself, her school, her community and the Lilac Festival. It was a very challenging decision for our judges to make. We appreciate all of our Candidates and the commitment they showed us over the last few weeks. We hope to keep working with all of them and look forward to seeing what they will achieve in their Senior year and beyond!
It is our pleasure to present our 2019 "We Are Spokane" Royal Court!
- Brooke DeRuwe (Central Valley High School)
- Madison O'Callaghan (Cheney High School)
- Maggie Bailey (Freeman High School)
- Lilan Kay (Liberty High School)
- Sydney Lyman (Mead High School)
- Makayla Juntunen (North Central High School)
- Grace Cvancara (The Oaks Classical Christian Academy)
Congratulations, ladies!
The Court is already off to a busy start as they gathered with their parents for the Court Orientation meeting on Monday with the Co-VP's of Royalty and Chaperones. On Wednesday, they had their first official community event as a Court when they visited patients and staff at the VA Hospital to celebrate Valentine's Day and National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Our team loves participating in this event with the VA Hospital every year. It is a great opportunity for our young leaders to meet and talk with those who have given so much for our country and community.
Keep reading this week's Lilac Weekly as we spotlight and share new fun facts of our newly appointed "We Are Spokane" Court Members.
And don't forget to mark your calendars and purchase tickets for
Sunday, March 3rd at 3pm for the 2019 Royalty Coronation
at West Valley High School.

Princess Brooke DeRuwe
Central Valley High School
Princess Brooke is our environment super hero! She is very passionate about helping our planet and ensuring generations after us enjoy it as much as we have. She is an adviser for Green Team and plans to study Environmental Science at the University of Montana.
She is very involved at her school; she is a member of the Key Club, National Honor Society, the current ASB Treasurer, a member of the Chase Youth Commission, participates in Special Olympic Unified Sports, and occasionally volunteers with the Spokane Police Department.
Brooke loves the Spokane community's ability to offer her so many volunteer opportunities. She has been able to travel, build relationships and make so many memories thanks to her volunteer experience throughout Spokane.
A fun fact about Brooke is that she would love the super power to fly so she could see the world from a different perspective and not have to spend as much on travel. She has an infectious smile that we all love. A little known fact is that she secretly loves 'spirit days' at school where she can dress up and have fun. Her favorite food is lasagna, loves listening to country music and especially her favorite singer and celebrity, Thomas Rhett.
We are very proud to welcome Brooke to our 2019 Royalty Court. Way to go Princess Brooke!

Princess Madison O'Callaghan
Cheney High School
Princess Madison is one of our athletic stars! She has played three varsity sports as well as holds the position of Vice President for her school's Sports Medicine Club. She is also involved with Washington Drug Free Youth and Future Business Leaders of America.
After she graduates, Madison plans to attend a four-year university to start her studies to become an Orthodontist.
Madison's favorite part about Spokane is all the different activities she is able to do. Since we have all four seasons, she enjoys ice skating in the park as well as enjoy the falls in the Spring from above.
Madison's favorite food is breakfast burritos (no matter the time of day) and loves chocolate almond milk. She loves shopping at H&M and her favorite Disney Princess is Cinderella.
We are looking forward to getting to know Madison even more and enjoying her bright smile and personality! Congratulations Princess Madison!

Princess Maggie Bailey
Freeman High School
Princess Maggie is one of our avid community volunteer and leaders. She is involved with several organizations throughout the Spokane area, one of her favorites being Camp Fire where she is a member of the National Camp Fire Youth Advisory Cabinet. She is also very involved at her school. She is a member of the FFA, FBLA, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Roll, Trap team and Track & Field team.
After graduation, Maggie will be attending a four-year university to study Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Dentistry. Maggie believes that a Dentist plays a huge roll in a person's life in helping create and encourage both good health and confidence. A smile is the same in every language and Maggie hopes to be a part in making it the best for everyone.
Maggie's favorite thing about Spokane is it's caring heart. It's a city with a 'small town' feel. She loves how everyone is friendly and warms your day with a simple, 'hi.' One of her top bucket list items is to fill up her passport with as many stamps as possible, hopefully starting with St. Martin. Maggie's favorite food is sushi and she loves to drink root beer. Her favorite movie is "Monster's Inc.," and her favorite Disney princess is Belle.
Maggie is a wonderful addition to our Court and we are honored to be a part of her long list of achievements. Congrats to Princess Maggie!
