Valued Faculty & Staff,
It is important to remember that, in our state like other states, the state budget is a process that involves the government and the state's citizenry.
University leadership is engaged at every level in reviewing the Governor's proposed budget. As the Provost of UA Health Programs and the Dean of the College of Health, I am involved in these discussions and am committed to ensuring that the College of Health continue our growth and capacity building as we educate those who protect and provide for the health and safety of all Alaskans.
It is important to remember that UA Government Relations serves as the university’s primary liaison to state policymakers and the Alaska legislature. As Alaskans, we understand that faculty and staff may want to contact their legislators or provide comments regarding the Governor's budget proposal. We ask that all faculty and staff review and follow the guidance provided by
UA Outreach before engaging.
Remember, we have already begun the process of College reorganization to create efficiencies and improve our effectiveness. In many ways, the College of Health is ahead of the curve in regard to improved budget stewardship in alignment with our goals. We have realized these improvements as a team, and we will continue to move forward as a team.
I encourage you to reach out and engage in dialogue with your Leadership Team members if you have comments, concerns, or questions. I encourage you to commit to creating a network of positive support for each other in alignment with our mission to advance the health and well-being of people and communities.
Please know that as College of Health faculty and staff, the work you do every day makes a meaningful difference in the lives of Alaskans in both the short and long term.
You are improving the lives of Alaskans, and I am proud of the collective positive impact the College of Health has on Alaska.
Never forget that we are a team - in good and challenging times. Lean into the spirit of teamwork and let's continue to provide an excellent education to Alaska's future healthcare and public safety professionals.
