Our Mission Statement

We of Joy Lutheran Church foster
grace-filled relationships with Christ
through worship, fellowship, and service.

Gospel: Mark 13:1-8
November begins with All Saints Day and ends in or near Advent, when we anticipate Christ's coming again. So the readings today tell of the final resurrection and the end time. In the turmoil of hope, fear, and disbelief that these predictions provoke in us, Hebrews sounds a note of confident trust. Christ makes a way for us where there is no way, and we walk it confidently, our hearts and bodies washed in baptismal water, trusting the one who has promised. The more we see the last day approaching, the more important it is to meet together to provoke one another to love.

Counters Needed - STILL!
Do you know what happens to your offering after it goes into the offering plate?  Well, before it can used to support the ministry of Jesus, it has to be counted, recorded, and deposited. That work is done by two volunteers right after worship ends. It's a quick, but important part of our stewardship of God's gifts and your financial support.  It generally takes 20-30 minutes.

We need some more people who are willing to sign up for this important ministry.  There are instructions and training is available. Volunteers take turns signing up, much like we do for our other volunteers positions, which helps to spread out the Sundays you serve.

If you are willing to help, please sign upon the bulletin board in the narthex.  Look for the sheet that says, "Sunday Worship Assistants." Thank you.

Thanksgiving Blessing
Thank you to everyone who donated peas and cranberries for this year's Thanksgiving Blessing.  Set-up starts Sunday.  Love INC volunteers will organize the food items in Brause Hall and get the church ready for the event.  Other area churches will be dropping off their food contributions this afternoon and Sunday.  The meal giveaway is Monday, Nov. 19 th from 3:00 - 8:00pm.  Neighbors in need from the 99577 and 99567 zip codes can receive grocery items for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

As the host location we provide snacks and beverages.  We still need many cookie, fruit snacks (Cuties oranges, grapes in individual little cups, etc.), carrot sticks in little cups, string cheese and other refreshment donations to serve our waiting neighbors during the event.  These don't need to be homemade!  Cuz...

All cookies are good cookies!

Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service
Please join us on Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, Nov. 21) at 7:00 pm for a special worship service where we take time for a peaceful break to reflect on those things we are thankful for and pray for those whom need God's peace (like us!).

Advent is coming!  Let's Decorate the Church!
Help us decorate for Advent!  The season begins Sunday, Dec. 2, and the tree and all the trimmings will go up on Saturday, Dec. 1st. (This will take the place of the usual Men's Group/Breakfast Club on Dec. 8.)

Join us at 9:30am for a potluck breakfast, then join us in decking the hall with stars and all the rest.  There are low branches and higher ones, so lots for the whole family to do, not to mention those who are nimble and willing to scramble up ladders!

New ideas and hands always welcome!

Wednesday Evening Advent Worship & Soup
Advent is almost here!  Once again, we will be having Wednesday evening worships during advent, beginning on December 5th at 7:00 pm.  These are shorter, more relaxed worship times, that allow us all to slow down a bit from our hectic December schedules and be gently reminded of the important message of this season for our lives. Advent means "coming" and we remember that Jesus came for us and all people, and still comes to us each day with love and acceptance.

We will also continue our tradition of having soup suppers prior to these worship times, beginning at 6:15 pm. This allows busy people the opportunity to skip making a meal at home, and join their faith family in some hearty soup and bread.

We are looking for some folks to help provide these meals.  It is always fun to share and enjoy the various soups people bring. If you would like to make a soup or bring some bread, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

Hello Singers!
Be a part of the Musical Joy this season!  Laura Storrs and Vanessa Jackson are ready to get a choir singing at Joy for the Christmas season.  We are looking for folks who love music and want to sing together to celebrate the Joy of Jesus coming into the world for us all.  You don't have to read music, just have an eagerness to sing.  If you can sing hymns in church, you are just who we need.

To help get as many people as possible, we're going to be practicing after church on Sundays (unless there is a children's service), and Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm.  You don't have to be at both times if you schedule doesn't allow.  We are starting TODAY Sunday, November 18th, and will meet again this Tuesday, November 20th.

Please spread the word!
