STRIDE Funds Project on Older Driver Experiences with Autonomous Vehicle Technology
The STRIDE Center is funding a collaborative project between UF’s Institute for Mobility, Activity and Participation (I-MAP) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with input from the City of Gainesville. The project’s goal is to understand perceptions, beliefs and attitudes of older drivers (≥ 65 years) as they relate to autonomous vehicle (AV) technology. It is expected that the results of this project will provide valuable information to engineers, system developers and rehabilitation scientists on the human factors of engaging with, trusting/distrusting, and accepting/not accepting AV technology. This research will also help city and state officials create policy as they work with older adults to help them adapt to AV technology.

New Program for Driver Rehabilitation Therapy Offered by UF OT
Occupational Therapy (OT) at the University of Florida is offering a new program for therapists who are interested in Driver Rehabilitation. This program will train students to screen, assess and evaluate drivers who are medically-at-risk for driving or who are unfit to drive. Students will also learn to provide evidence-based interventions for experienced licensed drivers representing populations across the lifespan. Graduates of this program will receive a certification in Driver Rehabilitation Therapy.
