Dear Akiba Schechter Parent,

We are excited to announce that Akiba Schechter will be hosting it's very first All Middle School Shabbaton on March 22 nd and 23 rd at the school. As part of this Shabbaton, we will also be celebrating the Bat Mitzvah of Alexis Buckley.

The cost for the Shabbaton is $45 per student which includes: Delicious Shabbat meals as well as snacks, programming and games around the clock.

The Shabbaton will be staffed by Rabbi Cohen and Dr. Jones as well as an additional support staff and chaperones. The students will come to school on Friday morning with their bags for the weekend and we will be having our regular Shushan Purim Roller Skating extravaganza that day. After school, the students registered for the Shabbaton will have special programming, get ready for Shabbat and enjoy a Pre-Shabbat Ruach program with music, singing and dancing just before Shabbat begins.

There will be Friday night services at the school followed by dinner prepared by the school. On Shabbat morning, we will have Shacharit at the school before the Bat Mitzvah service so that students can attend the Bat Mitzvah at Rodfei. Those students who choose are also welcome to daven at Rodfei. All Shabbaton attendees are invited to Alexis's Bat Mitzvah Kiddush and lunch following the services. The Kiddush and lunch at the synagogue will be catered by a CRC supervised caterer. Mincha, Seudah Shlishit and Maariv on Shabbat afternoon and evening will all be at the school. The following is a list of important information regarding the Shabbaton:

  • The Shabbaton will begin on Friday at approximately 2:00pm when the students return to school from roller skating and will end at the conclusion of Shabbat at 7:48pm. Pick up will be at 8:45pm.
  • All participants are expected to attend for the entire duration of the program and may not attend only a portion of the Shabbaton. All students must be part of the Shabbaton from Friday afternoon until after Shabbat ends.
  • Students must stay with the group at all times. No student may go off on his/her own without permission; even in groups.
  • On the Shabbaton, we are all expected to follow and respect the rules of Shabbat. We don't turn on or off lights, use electronics, carry outside designated areas, etc. If this is your first Shabbaton or you are not sure about a Shabbat rule, please ask a staff member or chaperone.
  • All electronics (phones, tablets, etc.) must be given to a chaperone before Shabbat and will be returned after Shabbat.
  • Any medications- prescription or over-the-counter - must be given to a chaperone at the beginning of the Shabbaton. There should be written instructions from a parent for use of the medication. Pills, medications or dietary supplements may not be shared with anyone else.
  • Normal Akiba rules (i.e. head-covering, kashrut, etc.) must be observed.
  • All students need to bring their own sleeping bag or other bedding to sleep on.
