ASF Receives "Outstanding Research" Award

ASF President Alison Singer and Chief Science Officer Dr. Alycia Halladay were honored by the State of Qatar and the Autism Society of America with the "Outstanding Science Research" Award this week at the second annual Autism Awareness Gala in Washington DC. In her acceptance speech, Ms. Singer cited key new insights from the Autism Sisters Project, the Autism BrainNet, the Baby Siblings Research Consortium and the work of ASF's postdoctoral fellows, and remarked that "without research, we won't be doing anything differently tomorrow than we are doing today".
Seaver Autism Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Earlier this month, the Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai marked its 25th anniversary with a celebration lunch in New York City. Seaver Center Director Dr. Joseph Buxbaum served for 4 years on the Autism Science Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board.

Congratulations to the Seaver Center and thank you for your dedication to families with autism.

ASF-Supported BSRC Study Explains Later Diagnoses

This week's podcast highlighted new research investigating later autism diagnoses. A study by the ASF-supported Baby Siblings Research Consortium suggested some children with autism do not receive a formal diagnosis until 5 years or later because their symptoms do not meet diagnostic thresholds used for early diagnosis. The study was led by Dr. Sally Ozonoff of the University of California, Davis.

Our Chief Science Officer, Dr. Alycia Halladay, gave a sneak preview of her new research about the impact of nonprofit fellowships and grants at the Health Research Alliance Members' Meeting. Dr. Halladay's analysis highlights the impact of ASF fellowships on the careers of grantees, showing that the majority of recipients remain committed to autism research long after their fellowships end. We'll be sharing more of this data at the annual INSAR meeting and in upcoming publications.
