DiningWeekDowntown Dining Weeks Starts in Four Days!
Get your first look at the menus!

Downtown Dining Weeks, presented by Visions Federal Credit Union and the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. begins Monday, February 18! Our team has posted the first round of menus to our website (the link is provided below!). Additional menus will be added as the restaurants share them with us, so check back often!

The once-a-year deals feature three dinner courses at participating restaurants for $30 or less, as well as three lunch courses for $10 or less.

Three Things to Know About Dining Weeks:

Sleep Over Package: Four Downtown Syracuse hotels will continue to offer discounted rates as part of the Downtown Dining Weeks Sleep Over Package. When guests show their Dining Weeks receipts at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, the Jefferson Clinton Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott at Armory Square and the Residence Inn by Marriott at Armory Square, they'll receive $25 off their room-rates.

Help Feed Food Bank of Central New York: Help the Food Bank of Central New York stock food pantries and feed the hungry in our community by taking home the gift envelope you receive during Downtown Dining Weeks and mailing a donation to the Food Bank. Just $1 can provide three meals for an individual in need, and $10 provides up to 30 meals for a family in need. In addition, Syracuse Parking Services will offer discounted $5 parking (Sunday through Thursday) at the Atrium Garage, Clinton Street Garage, and the surface lots at Fayette and Clinton and at Fayette and Walton Streets to those who bring a non-perishable food item(s) for the Food Bank.

Spot the Chef's Hat and Win!  Each restaurant will have a chef's hat placed somewhere visible in the dining area(s). Diners are encouraged to spot the chef's hat, take a picture of it, and email the picture - or a thorough description of its location- to [email protected], explaining where and in what restaurant they saw it. All correct guesses will be entered into multiple drawings for gift cards/gift certificates. Winners will be notified through email.

Available every Friday

Glazed & Confused is cooking up a different flavor of filled donuts every Friday. This Friday (tomorrow), pick up "The Inside Job," a yeast donut filled with cannoli cream, topped with chocolate glaze, chocolate chips and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Check Glazed & Confused's Facebook page to see the featured filled donut flavor that week.

SaltCitySalt City Market & Food Hall Planning Fall 2020 Opening
Ground breaking planned for early summer

Though its groundbreaking is planned for later this spring, Salt City Market is already looking for food vendors. Entrepreneurs who are interested should click here and scroll down to learn about opportunities to sell their food on the ground floor of a five-story building that will occupy what's now a parking lot at the corner of South Clinton, South Salina and Onondaga Streets in Downtown Syracuse. The ground floor will also feature a grocery store component, cafe, bar and more!

As construction is underway, Salt City Market is conducting interviews and auditions. Selected food vendors will be able to receive training and design, as well as test, source and scale recipes in a production kitchen. They may be able to participate in a pop-up market beginning as early as this spring, and cook for upwards of 500 guests at large events planned in the coming months.

The second floor of the building will be offices for the Allyn Family Foundation and other not-for-profits. The top three floors will be home to 37 mixed income apartments, ranging from low income to market-rate.

LakeEffectLake Effect Applications Launches New New Game in Apple's iTunes App Store
Introducing "Trigger First: Global Operations Assault Team (G.O.A.T)"

Lake Effect Applications, headquartered in the Tech Garden in Downtown Syracuse, has launched a new game through Apple's iTunes App Store. The game is the product of six years of hard work by 15 software engineers and artists. The game is free to download and play. Though it's only available for iPhones at the moment, Lake Effect built the game to be compatible with other devices. The game is "device agnostic," which means that it can be ported over to play on Android phones, PCs and gaming consoles without major adaptions. Lake Effect hopes to make money through "microtransactions" where players are able to purchase vanity items including weapons or uniforms, and in-game advertising.

Lake Effect was founded in 2010 by John Spatola, who spent three years working on radar for Lockheed Martin's Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS). Lake Effect saw success with "Trigger First" in 2012. That game has been downloaded 23 million times! The new game is similar in that it allows users to play the role of a solider in an assault team, but also has a unique perspective as it blends elements of first person and third person views. While the player is able to view the game through the eyes of their character, the camera is also positioned in such a way that allows the player to see their character's movements and weapons as well.

ApolloApollo 50th Next Giant Leap Challenge at the MOST
Nationwide challenge for students in grades five through 12

This July marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing! To celebrate Neil Armstrong's "one small step" and to prepare students for a "giant leap for mankind," the MOST is hosting the New York State component of the national Apollo 50th Next Giant Leap (ANGLeS) Challenge on Saturday, July 20.

This nationwide challenge provides an opportunity for students in grades five through 12 to replicate the lunar landing using a drone and pre-programmed LEGO robot. The winning team of the New York State challenge will receive a tour of the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas on August 7-9.
