Update on Attendance Boundary Committee
Assistant Superintendent Tim McClure gave a report to trustees regarding the progress made in the last three Attendance Boundary Committee meetings.
The committee has worked diligently throughout all three meetings, sharing responses from their respective communities, discussing options, and ultimately reaching consensus on recommended attendance boundary changes. These changes accommodate the new Lance Thompson Elementary School, along with boundary adjustments planned for growth in other areas of the district. The committee is composed of parents and educators from every campus, as well as additional parents who live in the proposed areas of change.
Mr. McClure also reported on the results of the Thoughtexchange that was conducted to discover what district families and communities believes are the most important considerations when creating and adopting new attendance boundaries. An overwhelming response produced 1,700 people participating in the process, generating more than 1,200 thoughts, and producing 44,625 ratings on those thoughts. The following thoughts received the most popular positive rankings: distance to the school, maintaining appropriate class sizes, and planning for future growth. All these factors were considered by the committee when finalizing their recommendation.

at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13. During the video, they will take questions regarding the proposed boundaries, as this will provide an additional opportunity for the community to provide feedback prior to the recommendation being presented to the school board on Feb. 25.
Election for trustees called
The board approved ordering a trustee election for places 3 and 4 on the May 4 general election date.
The district has been accepting applications for the election since Jan. 16. Friday, Feb. 15, is the last day a candidate can file to run for the election, and the following Friday, Feb. 22, is the final day a candidate can withdraw an application.
In other action, the board
- Recognized Charles Ashby, the district’s energy manager, for Northwest ISD’s Energy Star certifications, saving more than $5.5 million through energy conservation.
- Accepted a check for $11,115 to district physical education programs from sponsors of December’s Reindeer Romp: Fieldhouse Fitness Center of Justin, Texas Health Alliance, Moritz Kia and BNSF.
- Accepted a check for $27,287 on behalf of the Northwest ISD Education Foundation from the Northwest Community Partnership, which decided to donate the remaining funds from its dissolution to the foundation for student scholarships and teacher grants.
- Reviewed the district’s 2018-22 strategic framework – which includes its beliefs, vision, mission and strategic goals – which was adopted last year. This review is done annually during a strategic framework’s lifespan.
