ST. LOUISE SCHOOL PARENT BULLETIN

November 15, 2018
Dan's Blog
Father Gary and I are so grateful for the dedication of Auction workers and committees, the donated time of our teachers, the tireless leadership of our Auction director, Julianne Read, the hard work of item-procurers, and the generosity of donors, sponsors, and bidders! All of these pieces working together so well were why last Saturday's Auction was so successful! It's a Wonderful Life at St. Louise was not only a fabulous fund raiser for the school, it was a terrific time of community where the closeness and positive spirit of St. Louise parents, staff, and alumni were truly evident!

I want to make special mention of the time and talent given the final days and hours leading up to the Auction by Mike Kirby, Margie Clinton, Mary Anne & Elwell Baradi (alumni parents), Tom Brennan, Jacob Brennan (StL Class of 2015), Jon & Jennifer Sharp, Chris Read, Kathy Hueffed, Diane Sloss, Anna Jung, Amy Thielman, Cindy Wagner, Mindy Morgan, Sarah Morgan (Class of 2007), Meghan Green, and Rebecca Nightingale. They played key roles behind the scenes in making sure the
Congratulations to Ella for winning the Barbie car during last week's Auction Preview Week. Thanks to all parents and kids who purchased raffle tickets in support of the Auction.
Auction ran efficiently and that last-minute details were attended to!

We don't have all the financial figures available yet, but preliminarily we can say that the Live Auction netted $79K, the

Silent Auctions (including Raffles) netted $55K, and the Parties/Sign-Ups brought in $29K. The tentative total (minus Fund-a-Need) is $163,000, and this is the second highest total we've generated in the last five years! Thank you, generous St. Louisers!

As for our special Fund-a-Need to pay the bill for construction of the new parent/visitor security door and to start facility work this winter to enhance our parish hall so it can become a great venue for the school musical and school concerts, donors in the Marriott ballroom were generous to the tune of $85,000! Wow!

For more information on the Auction, please read Julianne's article below, which includes news on wine for sale. You probably could use some white and red bottles on your Thanksgiving dinner table, right?

...OH! ...and if you haven't picked up your items purchased at the Auction, stop by the Auction office tomorrow between 7:30am and 4pm. Or, if you would like items sent home with your child, please send Julianne an email today. She needs room to breathe in there, and the Auction offices is starting to look like Fibber McGee's closet. If you aren't an old man like me, you'll need an explanation of who Fibber McGee was. Look here.

This coming Monday and Tuesday, the majority of you are conferencing with your children's teachers, finding out about the specific curricula taking place in classes, hearing about your kids' strengths and areas where they're improving, and collaborating with the teachers on how to help your children grow even stronger.

Last week, I sent home a " Tips for Successful Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences" sheet. Please refer to it so you better assure your 20-minute conference time is well-utilized. Note that every grade 1-8 student is expected to be present for at least the beginning of the conference. There will be a specialist teacher in the library supervising siblings, so if you need to drop off one child while whisking the other to a classroom for a conference, please thank Mr. Evans, Dr. Cole, Mrs. McIntosh, Mrs. LB, and/or Mrs. Lux.

Unlike past years, this year our 1st trimester was longer, and thus report cards are not ready in time to hand out and discuss at conferences. Report cards will initially be worked-on by the teachers starting the following Monday - November 26 - and thus, that Monday is a no-school day. It takes quite some time for teachers to complete compiling grades and marks on report cards and to write comments. They'll be working evenings and weekends beyond the 26th, and thus, report cards won't be sent home until the second week of December.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you need some help for your Thanksgiving dinner table when it comes to praying an inspiring family prayer, here are some suggestions.

Pax et bonum,
Mr. Fitz

p.s.

Note there will be NOT be a Parent Bulletin sent home next week.

Braden Schoenlein Named as Distinguished Graduate

Distinguished Graduate Captain Schoenlein - St. Louise School Class of 2006 -  with parents Kris and Gary
This past Monday, during our school Mass on Veterans' Day, we announced our 2018 Distinguished Graduate - Braden Schoenlein - a graduate of the St. Louise Class of 2006  and a graduate of West Point. Braden has just returned from deployment in Qatar, where she served as a Captain in the US Army.
Each year in conjunction with every Catholic school in the country, the National Catholic Educational Association names Distinguished Graduates, and Braden received that top recognition this year for the commendable education, career, and service she has gone on to achieve after graduating from St. Louise School.
While receiving her award at Mass, Braden spoke to the students about her wonderful education at St. Louise - from the academic skills she learned from teachers who taught her (such as Mrs. Bannick, Mrs. Danforth, Mrs. Williams, and Mrs. Herridge) to the school spirit she was immersed in, such as the CYO volleyball championships she won over the years with her classmates (with her dad as coach).
Braden also spoke of how her Catholicity helped her get through basic training, finding solace in the quietness and spiritual support at weekly Masses with other Catholic Army cadets.
We are proud of you, Braden, and thank you for your service to our country!

Women's Bible Study Begins this Week

Women of the school and parish, and their adult friends/family are invited to join a new Bible study series at St. Louise Parish.  Our first focus will be on excerpts from the Gospel of John using a Bible study program published by Dynamic Catholic titled, "Turning Point."  Please pass along this news to any women who might be interested in studying with us. All are welcome!
This program includes workbooks for participants and brief lectures on DVD. There is some recommended "homework" to do between sessions, but the workload is light and we are confident that any level of involvement will be rewarding.
We will be meeting the first and third Thursday MORNINGS of the month, from 8:30-10:00 AM, in the original school's central wing room B (CW-B).  A second group will be meeting in parallel, also on the first and third Thursday EVENINGS of the month, from 7:30-9:00 PM, also in CW-B.
Both of these groups will have their first meeting this Thursday, November 15.  You are welcome to join either of these groups, or to attend sessions of the one that best fits your schedule on each meeting day.
Materials can be purchased from Dynamic Catholic for $15.95 (includes DVDs).  We will also have a few sets of materials available at our first meeting.  We have received a couple of donations to support getting materials to interested participants, so please do not let the cost of materials deter you!
