Mary Poppins plays to a record crowd!
Article by Shirel Garzon ('19)

This year's production of Mary Poppins was incredibly rewarding to be a part of. From the first day of auditions in August until the very last second before the curtains went up, the cast and crew dedicated all of their time and talents to the show, and have created their own little family within KYHS. It doesn't seem real to me that, as a senior, this was my last musical. Reflecting on the past few months, I've been overwhelmed with gratitude for our director, Jill. She, and every play I've been a part of, have changed my high school experience, and created a constant source of joy and friendship. I wish that the audience could have seen every rehearsal, full of laughter and repetition and frustration. The play, of course, is the final product that we perform, but it is also the moments and friendships that we build throughout the rehearsal process. Drama has created an opportunity for us to see what we are capable of doing with a little bit of sacrifice and a lot of dedication. Its worth the thousands of dollars in Ubers that me, Nili, and my cast mates have spent to get from rehearsals to our homes south of Hollywood. I'm sure we'd all do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Interview with Captain Max Frolich ('21)

What teams came to play in the Step it Up tournament?
HAFTR, Frisch, and SAR.

What was the highlight of the tournament?
Our team was going 3-0 in the regular season of the tournament, Levi Stein won the three-point contest, and we had an amazing kumzits with all of the boys in the tournament on Shabbat.

What was the most interesting game of the tournament?
The most interesting game was KYHS vs. Frisch where we won. We were initially down by 13, but came back to win!

Do you have any team traditions?
Our team traditions are not eating cookies before the game and eating pizza as a team.

How did this tournament bring you closer as a team?
In the first three games of the tournament, we entered halftime losing, but we somehow managed to win as a team, and it really unified us to feel so fulfilled.
