Superintendent's Letter

In his February Letter to the Community, Superintendent McPhetridge discusses the district's  upcoming Strategic Plan process and asks for the community's help in revising AUSD's vision and mission statements.

" As Board and staff aim to engage families and students we serve and include AUSD staff in this process, it is clear we need to hear more from our stakeholders about what they think the district should focus on going forward," he writes.

WMS Students Propose Uses for Plot of Land

Sixth graders at Wood Middle School undertook a novel assignment in their math classes earlier this month: imagining a beneficial use for a 900 square foot plot of land in our town and then building a model to scale of their idea. Learn more about this creative (and very mathematical!) project here.

AUSD Launches Season of Nonviolence Activities

Every year, AUSD participates in the Season for Nonviolence, a 64-day event that seeks to raise awareness of the philosophy and potential of attaining peace through nonviolent action. Our article on this inspiring season includes information about the upcoming student speech contest, as well as a few examples of how schools around the district incorporate these life lessons into their classrooms.
