California School Parent Survey, 2018-2019

This is your opportunity to be heard. Sandpiper School would like you to complete an online survey (https://surveys.wested.org/csps/YJ423XM) as part of the Cal-SCHLS surveys.  The California School Parent Survey (CSPS) is designed to provide teachers, administrators, and other school staff with information, directly from parents, that can be used to foster positive learning and teaching environments, parent involvement, student achievement, health, and well-being.

The purpose of this survey is to obtain Parent perceptions of student behavior and attitudes, school programs and policies, and the overall school climate as they relate to student well-being and learning. Families play an important role in the school success of children. Your School needs you to complete this online survey to learn more about your opinions about your child's school.

Your participation is voluntary.  It is also very important.  The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.

This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data.

Please don't hesitate to contact Beth Boldt with any questions.

  Your kids need you!

Our district schools rely on their communities to help with yard duty and at Sandpiper we are currently in desperate need of help with this!

We need people to monitor our playground areas on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12.15 - 1.30 pm.  Paid positions are available and it doesn't  need to be an every day commitment.

If you are interested please let Assistant Principal Sevillia know.
Science Fair 2019 is Calling all Scientists
1st to 5th Grades

Sandpipers Annual Science Fair will be held on April 19th, 2019 in the Multi Use Room. There is no specific theme so go ahead and explore any topics that tickles your child's curiosity. Parents have to create their own teams of 3-6 kids and one parent volunteer manages the project as the lead.

The deadline to register your team is March 15th, 2019.

To have your questions answered, please join us for a general information session on Friday, February 15th at 8:30am in the Large Classroom of the Community Center or email us at [email protected].

To register & learn about the rules & policies please refer to our website.
Sandpiper's Multicultural Event will soon be here!

What culture does your family most associate itself with? Do you, or someone in your family, feel passionate about the traditions from your background? Do you cherish your ancestors' culture? Are you fascinated with a country you used to live in?

Our Multicultural Event in March is a unique opportunity to teach our students about the world around us.

Here's how you can help:

1. Add your voice to the Sandpiper Diversity Map by completing the nation survey  here  Check out our Diversity Map in the making  https://goo.gl/QRy35w

2.  Become a Nation Ambassador by leading a short presentation in your class during school hours in March. You can share the story of your Nation based on the theme suggested by the teachers (see below). For example, if you have family connection to China and your child is in the 2nd grade - your presentation will be on food from China.

3.   On the evening of March 29th, parent volunteers (you) will form teams to lead interactive Nation Stations for families to learn about your country. For example, all parents representing China regardless of the grade their child is in will join efforts in setting up and leading a China Station.

As a Nation Ambassador you will receive guidelines and suggestions but will also have lots of freedom with the presentation and station format.

Please note, Middle School students will participate in this event by presenting their National History Day projects. Middle School student parents are invited to participate in the March 29th evening event.

Running Club?

Redwood Shores Elementary has shared with us how they started their successful student running club. If you are interested in leading this at Sandpiper please let us know! We'd love to offer it to our students too!
Box Tops for Education - February Challenge

Shop products with BoxTops  and earn cash for our school. Simply cut the BoxTops coupon out along the printed perforations and have your child return it to their classroom during the month of February. We will earn 10ยข for each clipping.  The class that collects the most box tops will win a PRIZE!

(It is really helpful if  you can bundle the coupons in groups of 50's with a rubber band as this is how Box Tops must be submitted for processing. Happy Clippings!)
PTA Enrichment at Sandpiper

There was a great deal of interest in the 2nd Grade Book Club. Thanks to the money raised through our Book Fair earlier this year Scholastic Dollars are paying for some of the books!

If you're interested in learning more about setting up a PTA book club or another kind of enrichment let us know! We'd love to share best practice and support each other with how to get this kind of club going!

Reading Power Fun Continues

Reading Power was a fantastic two-week event! From watching our ocean mural grow with colorful fish representing students of all grade levels to a fun-filled PJ Story Night to chanting "pie Ms. Moore" as raffle winners gave their best throw during Pie the Principal -  it was fun for all. Reading Power would not have been possible without the many parents who donated prizes and who graciously gave their time to check reading logs, paste fish, prepare meals for the teacher luncheon, read stories, tally the pledge forms, set up, clean up, and so much more - THANK YOU!

Thank you to all the students and families who participated in this critical fundraiser for SchoolForce. Together, students in the District raised over $400,000 last year during Reading Power. We hope to beat that this year and continue to fill the gaps to provide an exceptional education that every student deserves.

We will be tallying the pledge forms during the next few weeks. If you have not already, please be sure to return your reading log, pledge form and donations to your classroom. Reading Power fun continues with the prizes awarded in March!

With much gratitude and appreciation,
The Reading Power Team
Ralston PTA Parent Ed Night-
Well-Balanced Student

When we are too focused on grades and performance, we deny our children time and energy they need to tackle the demanding work of growing up. In this presentation, you'll learn how you can establish a healthier home environment, reduce academic stress without sacrificing achievement and increase your children's resilience, creativity, and well being. The presentation will also offer a brief discussion of "how and why fit matters" in regards to the college experience.

Mary will be delivering the "Well-Balanced Student" presentation on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 6:30pm - 8pm in the Ralston MUR. This event is open to all members of our BRSSD parent community.
